Culture, Nature and Active Days in the Mladá Boleslav District

The Mladá Boleslav District combines historical discoveries with landscapes ideal for walks and cycling trips. The Mladá Boleslav region is known for active holidays, cultural and historical sights, cycle paths, hiking trails, romantic landscapes and experiences for children. This allows you to plan your stay in different ways: with a day at a museum, a hike through protected landscapes or a route to castles and smaller towns.

Your journey can also be planned in a variety of ways. Mladá Boleslav can be reached from Prague by car, bus, train or bicycle via signposted cycle paths. Direct trains run from Prague Main Station to Mladá Boleslav; buses depart from, among other places, Černý Most and Letňany. Mladá Boleslav is therefore a natural starting point for further orientation if you want to combine culture and nature on the same trip.

Hiking Trails and Protected Landscapes

Chlum offers a particularly vivid nature experience. Chlum is a protected nature park and, at the same time, a European site of community importance with notable archaeological interest. The Chlum educational trail includes ten information boards on natural history and archaeology. Part of the route can be cycled and runs along a cycle path. The landscape is characterised by oak-hornbeam forests, flowering beech forests, wet meadows, orchards and white slopes.

For longer hiking ideas, the Golden Trail of the Bohemian Paradise begins in Mladá Boleslav and leads via Mnichovo Hradiště towards Jičín. The Příhrazské skály rocks include Drábské světničky, a rock castle on the Hrada plateau. The Rečkov area is also home to Siberian arrowhead plants and the narrow-mouthed whorl snail; it also contains bog and purple moor-grass meadows as well as natural black alder wet forests.

Museums, Castles and Special Stories

Mladá Boleslav is home to a castle whose origins date back to the second half of the 10th century and which now houses the Regional Museum. The exhibition uses animation, sound and light effects, making the presentation engaging for children as well. Mladá Boleslav is also home to the Škoda Museum, located in the original production halls where vehicles were manufactured until 1928. An interactive multimedia exhibition covering 1,800 square metres tells the story of the brand. The collection comprises around 360 objects, including production vehicles, racing cars, prototypes, engines, motorcycles and a bicycle.

In Dobrovice, museums focus on sugar production, distillation, sugar beet cultivation and the history of the town. The area around Dobrovice is considered the cradle of sugar beet cultivation in the Czech Republic; sugar production has continued there since 1831. Other historical highlights include the Loreta in Kosmonosy, built between 1702 and 1708 to a design by Giovanni Alliprandi, surviving parts of the 14th-century fortifications and a Renaissance château in Bělá pod Bezdězem. The château in Benátky nad Jizerou is historically associated with the astronomer Tycho Brahe. Loučeň Château is set in an English park with twelve labyrinths and mazes. In Jabkenice, the memorial museum is located in a former forester’s lodge associated with Bedřich Smetana.

The accommodation that suits you best can therefore be chosen primarily according to your preferred travel theme: Mladá Boleslav stands for museum visits and urban history, Chlum and Příhrazské skály for nature and hiking experiences, while the castles and smaller towns offer additional cultural destinations for shared excursions.
