Plateau, Church and Local History

Dolní Slivno lies on the Slivenská vysočina plateau, which forms part of the Dolnojizerská tabule. Dolní Slivno therefore combines a clearly identifiable landscape setting with historical traces in the village and in Slivínko. Between the plateau, the church and the other sites, a varied framework emerges for a trip that brings nature and local history together.

A notable cultural and historical landmark is the Church of St. Francis of Assisi. Its present Empire-style appearance dates from 1807–1808. The church is therefore one of Dolní Slivno’s historic sites and complements the remains of the fortress in Slivínko and the monuments in the village. This allows you to combine a cultural focus with different local points of interest when planning your trip.

Slivínko: Fortress Traces and a Natural Detail

The existence of the Slivínko fortress can be dated to the 14th century on the basis of archaeological finds. The fortress site has survived to this day as a small, densely overgrown island in a pond. It includes a trapezoidal bank platform with traces of ditches and the remains of a rectangular cellar. The island, bank platform and structural remains form a closely confined ensemble in which a natural detail and settlement history are found directly alongside each other.

A small-leaved lime tree aged between 120 and 150 years also grows in Slivínko. Alongside the fortress traces, it provides a living natural accent. Its great age adds a single, clearly describable natural motif to the view of Slivínko.

Monuments and Recurring Experiences

The Salač Column stands beside an old field path to Mečeříž. Anna and Jiří Salač had the six-metre-high column erected in 1699; it is topped by an iron cross. With its location beside the old field path, its date of construction and its height, it represents a specific testimony to local history. If you are interested in smaller historical testimonies away from major buildings, the column complements the local history with a quieter, place-specific point of interest.

The monument to Vincencie Tirschová stands in Sokol Park in Dolní Slivno. It commemorates the mother of Miroslav Tyrš, the founder of Sokol, and was ceremonially unveiled in 1934. The park thus also features a biographical link to the Czech Sokol tradition. The monument combines local history with the story of a person whose significance extends beyond Dolní Slivno to the origins of Sokol.

There are two specific options to consider when planning an active trip. The Svatováclavský běh takes place annually in Dolní Slivno. In addition, Cycle Route No. 8156 passes through Slivínko at kilometre 10 and reaches Dolní Slivno at kilometre 11. Along the route, Slivínko and Dolní Slivno therefore follow one another at consecutive kilometre markers. When planning, you can thus distinguish between a recurring running event and a cycling connection with two specific local points of interest.
