Horní Slivno: Cycling Route and Local History

Horní Slivno combines cycling with local history dating back to 1223. The local history includes not only St. Martin's Church on the village green, but also the Hankovská fortress and traces of a second fortress. Historical traces since 1223

The first written mention of the settlement of Horní Slivno dates from 1223. The Hankovská fortress was acquired by the Bezdružičtí z Kolovrat family in 1485 and incorporated into the Košátky estate in 1486. The local history thus extends from the early settlement to the connections of the Hankovská fortress with the estates in the 15th century. This brings different historical periods together in the context of exploring the locality. The early settlement and the history of the site belong to different eras of the same place.

A second fortress stood in the northern courtyard on the north side of the village. Its lower foundation probably forms part of the western courtyard building. The structural connection therefore remains unclear. Alongside St. Martin's Church and the Hankovská fortress, this trace expands the historical perspective to include the north side of the village. Its northern location adds a spatial accent alongside the centre. In this way, different historical sites and periods stand side by side in Horní Slivno.
