Skalsko – St. Havel Church, Zadní Hrádek and cycle paths

The St. Havel Church complex is located on an elevated hilltop in the centre of Skalsko. The church is a single-nave Baroque building dating from 1733–1734. The complex includes an enclosing wall, an entrance gate, a bell tower and the grounds of the former cemetery. The historical impression is therefore not limited to the church building alone but also encompasses the surrounding elements of the site. St. Havel Church was created by rebuilding an older Gothic church. Its floor plan consists of a rectangular nave, a set-back semicircular presbytery, a chapel and a sacristy. Zadní Hrádek between history and nature

A Slavic hillfort was located on the rocky spur of Zadní Hrádek in the northeastern part of Skalsko. Zadní Hrádek, near Skalsko, is also a natural monument. The archaeological evidence relating to Skalsko suggests that the site was connected with the vanished settlement of Skály, which probably belonged to the possible Slavic hillfort of Skála near Zadní Hrádek. This cautious wording is part of the history: it is an archaeological interpretation with an explicitly possible and presumed connection. When choosing the focus of an excursion, the emphasis here is therefore on the combination of the landscape form, early settlement and natural monument.

Cycle paths with different routes

Cycle route No. 143 runs through the Skalsko area in the valley of the Strenický potok and connects Kokořínsko with Pojizeří. In the direction of Strenice, it continues via Skalsko to Lobeč Chateau. Its route through the valley of the Strenický potok complements this connection with a specific landscape setting.

Signposted cycle route No. 8159 leads from Březovice via Sudoměř and Skalsko to Malé Všelisy. This cycle route also runs via Boreč and Malé Všelisy into the valley of the Košátecký potok. The choice of route therefore depends on whether the connection between Kokořínsko and Pojizeří or the sequence Březovice–Sudoměř–Skalsko–Malé Všelisy is to be the focus.
