Jungbunzlau, known in Czech as Mladá Boleslav, combines a distinctive industrial history with medieval urban history and experiences where children can actively explore. The Škoda Muzeum is the main attraction: it opened in 1995 to mark the 100th anniversary of the founding of the automobile company in Mladá Boleslav. Former production buildings dating from 1899 to 1911 are used for this purpose. If you would like to visit the Škoda production facilities, tours are available Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Booking must be made several days or even weeks in advance.

Urban History in a Castle and Noble Residence

The Muzeum Mladoboleslavska is located in the rooms of “Mladoboleslavský hrad” Castle and offers both permanent and temporary exhibitions. The origins of the castle date back to the second half of the 10th century and are connected with the emergence of a fortified settlement. An exhibition on the history of the region presents rural administration, social life and festive events, as well as traditional costumes, rural interiors, industry and transport. Agricultural production and various smaller urban and rural trades are also among the topics.

One of the oldest surviving buildings in Mladá Boleslav is the Městský palác Templ. The building is a rare example of a late Gothic urban noble residence. Inside, there is an archaeological museum exhibition. The permanent multimedia exhibition takes visitors through the history of the city from prehistoric times to 1600. The Parkán area of the Městský palác Templ also features an interactive playground where children can try their hand at the work of archaeologists. This makes it possible to combine a visit focused on the city’s history with an activity of your own.

Historic Aircraft and a Short Educational Trail

The Letecké muzeum Metoděje Vlacha offers a different perspective on technology. The museum is dedicated to aviation from its beginnings to the present day and displays 28 historic aircraft, including originals and replicas. Twenty-two of them are fully operational and fly. There are also two open-cockpit biplane simulators. Visitors can fly them under the supervision of a pilot. This creates a clear contrast in your day’s itinerary between automotive history, aviation and the historic collections in the castle and noble residence.

For a quieter exploration, the Štěpánka Forest Park in Mladá Boleslav is a good option. In the Veverkov area, there is an educational trail designed for children. During a short walk, a total of ten stations made entirely of wood introduce visitors to squirrels and other inhabitants of the forest. This allows you to complement a museum visit with a manageable outdoor activity without making the focus of your stay just one subject.
