Landscape and History in Doubravička

Doubravička lies on a gently undulating plain that stretches to the foot of the 508-metre-high Vrátenská hora. This plain is bordered by deep valleys on both sides. The landscape alone gives the place a distinct character of its own: here you do not see just any plain, but a space between open areas, valleys and a prominent elevation. In earlier times, the area around Doubravička was covered by extensive forests and scrubland and crossed by numerous pools and small ponds.

The history of the village also offers several starting points for your explorations. The Doubravička municipal chronicle was begun in 1923 and kept retrospectively from the end of the 19th century through 1951. Doubravička was probably founded in direct connection with a feudal fortress called “Na Zámku”. The former hillfort or fortification grounds were destroyed and burned down during the Hussite Wars between 1425 and 1430. According to tradition, a royal road from Prague Castle via Stará Boleslav to Bezděz also passed through Doubravička.

Historical Traces in the Village

At the entrance to Doubravička from Kovanec stands a newly built chapel. A cross stands in the central public square. House No. 8 is particularly noteworthy: it is a multi-storey farmstead with agricultural buildings and an unusually asymmetrically positioned upper floor. On the map of the stable cadastre from 1842, this house is documented as a wooden structure. Those interested in rural architecture and the development of a village will therefore find various historical clues at individual points throughout the village.

Festivals and Places for Days Spent Together

Doubravička’s annual calendar includes two scheduled events. Every year on 14 February, the Maškarní ples, a masquerade ball, takes place. This is followed on 24 May by the Májové posezení, a convivial May festival gathering. A sports field and a children’s playground are available for active time in the village. This allows you to plan your time around local history, an event date and freely organised time in the village, without limiting your stay to a single theme.

Trails in the Immediate Surroundings

Doubravička itself lies outside marked hiking trails. At the same time, there are numerous marked hiking and cycling trails in the surrounding area, although no such route passes through the village. The nearest marked route runs from the railway station in Skalsko towards the Kokořínsko Protected Landscape Area. If you would like to include hiking or cycling in your travel plans, you should therefore distinguish between the village itself and the trails in its immediate surroundings.

Plain, Stream and Choosing Your Stay

South of Doubravička, the Košátecký potok meanders through the landscape and is considered a place for relaxation. Together with the deep valleys and the view towards Vrátenská hora, it creates a landscape that differs from the historical traces in the village while complementing them at the same time.
