Discover Kobylnice: Cycling Routes and Local History
Accommodation in Kobylnice
Cycling routes pass through Kobylnice, and the town’s history dates back to the 13th century. The “Svatojiřským lesem” route passes through the town, is 25 kilometres long and is suitable for all types of bicycles. Cycling Route 8154 reaches Kobylnice from Žerčice via a 1.5-kilometre, gently uphill stretch. This puts two different planning scales side by side: a longer tour and a clearly defined climb to the town. When planning your ride, you can decide whether the longer overall distance or the section from Žerčice to Kobylnice is the key factor for your day’s itinerary.
Cycling on Different Routes
On the section of Cycling Route 8154 near Kobylnice, the surface provides an additional point of reference: the route follows an unpaved farm track that joins a forest track to Ujkovice. For practical planning, the routes therefore differ in length, gentle ascent and a section of unpaved track.
Cycling Route 8147 also passes through Kobylnice. Further afield, you can join this route at Velkoledecký rybník; it runs through Svatojiřský les to Ledce. Signage, route alignments and surfaces may change. Therefore, check the current route and trail conditions before setting out.
Local History and Former Names
Kobylnice was first mentioned in a document from 1227. In 1228, Kobylnice belonged to the Monastery of St. George in Prague. Historically, the town was also part of the Žerčice parish. In Žerčice, the church Kostel sv Mikuláše is mentioned as a parish church in 1384. These dates mark different milestones: first the mention of Kobylnice, then its historical association with the monastery, and finally the mention of the parish church in Žerčice.
The former name Kobylníky also has a traditional explanation: it is associated with the former practice of keeping horses outdoors in so-called “horse fields”.
Nature Destinations Nearby
The Chlum, Čížovky and Jabkenicko nature parks are located near Kobylnice. Also nearby are dense, picturesque forests where mushrooms and other forest products can be found. Forests, nature parks and bodies of water thus offer distinct points of interest alongside the cycling routes. If you would also like to visit nature spots, you can take them into account when choosing your outings.
