Bukovno between Church Architecture and Local History

Bukovno offers several different starting points for discovering the town: a striking church, traces of history, distinctive details along the streets and a place for shared leisure activities. The focal point is the Church of Saint John of Nepomuk. The late Baroque building was constructed in 1769–1770 and clearly defines Bukovno’s skyline. The well-documented construction period alone gives the building a recognizable place in the town’s history.

The church’s later history includes a second construction phase in November 2012. In the second half of that month, the roof of the main nave was repaired. In addition to its origins in the 18th century, the building therefore also reflects a specific more recent period of preservation. This gives you an impression that takes into account not only the church’s external appearance but also its architectural development.

The town’s history reaches back considerably further: Bukovno was first documented in 1387 in connection with Pešík of Bukovno. This early record therefore predates the construction of the late Baroque church by several centuries. On a walk through the town, medieval local history and an 18th-century building thus come together.

The Boží muka stand on the main road to Michalovice, near the center of Bukovno. These are pillar-shaped sandstone shrines with an iron cross bearing the crucified Christ. Their precise location and distinctive form make them an easily identifiable feature of the townscape. When you explore Bukovno on foot, religious small-scale monuments here are not abstract terms but tangible elements of the streetscape.

Another characteristic building is Farmstead No. 24 in Bukovno. It is protected as a cultural monument and is described as a large, representative estate from the second half of the 19th century. Its façade is romantically designed. The farmstead is therefore one of the places where the town’s architectural past can be traced through a single property.

The central park also preserves an important memory: a monument commemorates 25 residents who lost their lives in the war. Town life is further complemented by an open-air cinema that was held at the Sokolovna. In bad weather, it was held inside the Sokolovna. Together, these references show different sides of the town – quiet remembrance and a community cultural event.

Leisure and Shared Experiences

The Volnočasový areál includes a zip line, a combined fitness element, balancing stilts and a ropes course. The area is accessible via the municipal infrastructure and is located along a forest walk used for relaxation and spending time together. In Bukovno, you will therefore find not only cultural and historical points of interest but also a place where exercise, relaxation and various activities come together.
