Loukovec brings together glassmaking, architectural history and the Jizera river landscape to create a varied travel destination. In Hubálov, glassmaking-related activities take centre stage; the church, the former manor house and the remains of a fortification give the place historical depth. The water also has different aspects: a named fishing area runs between two weirs, while the Hubálovské Tůně are described by their area. When planning your trip, you can therefore choose how to balance crafts, history and the Jizera.

Glassmaking in Hubálov

The Urbanglass workshop in Hubálov offers guided tours with glassmaking demonstrations, as well as workshops where you can try glassmaking for yourself. Advance booking is required for tours and workshops. Depending on your interests, you can watch a demonstration or choose to work with glass yourself.

The Urbanglass family gallery at Hubálov 21 in Loukovec displays glass figurines, animals, flowers and jewellery all year round. During Advent, themed nativity scene exhibitions are also held; visits are by prior arrangement. The workshop and gallery thus have different focuses: one is about making and trying things for yourself, the other about exhibited glass art and the seasonal addition during Advent.

Karel and Eva Urban’s family business in Hubálov makes nativity scene figures, classic table figurines, souvenirs and gifts, specially blown figures and glass beads. This range of products offers another insight into the breadth of glassmaking in Hubálov.

Church and architectural history

According to tradition, the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Loukovec has always existed in some form. Its wooden high altar bears life-size statues of Saint Adalbert and Saint Procopius. The church can be visited by prior arrangement. In the 13th century, Loukovec belonged to the commandery in Český Dub, also known as Světlá.

The history of the manor house can also be traced through several building phases: the Gothic manor house was converted into a Renaissance residence around 1600, then remodelled in the Baroque style at the end of the 17th century. Opposite Hubálov, near Loukovec on the left bank of the Jizera, are the remains of an earlier fortification, with an earth rampart made of fired clay. Alongside the manor house’s architectural history, these remains offer a different kind of historical trace.

Ridge and Jizera

Loukovec lies on a ridge that extends from Svijany to the right bank of the Jizera. The JIZERA 6 fishing area runs from the weir at the Hubálov hydroelectric power plant in the cadastral area of Loukovec to the weir at the Haškov hydroelectric power plant in the cadastral area of Veselá, near Mnichovo Hradiště. If you are interested in the fishing area or want to fish, check the rules currently in force beforehand.

The Hubálovské Tůně cover 0.6 hectares in the cadastral area of Loukovec. The information describes two different points of reference by the water: the fishing area can be identified by its endpoints, while the pools are described by their area.
