Loukov – Village Heritage Zone, Church and Jizera Landscape

Loukov is situated on a flat elevation on the right bank of the Jizera. The village combines a preserved historic center with protected landscapes, notable religious buildings, and routes for cycling and hiking excursions. This allows you to choose between village culture, nature-related attractions, and tours in the wider surrounding area when planning your trip.

Historic Center with Church and Heritage Zone

The preserved urban layout of Loukov is regarded as a remnant of the medieval settlement. The historic center forms the Loukov Village Heritage Zone, which is listed under ÚSKP number 2226. The defining features are predominantly timbered houses, timbered granaries, and other farm buildings. Most of the preserved timbered buildings date from the second half of the 18th century to the beginning of the 19th century.

One focal point of the village's history is the Church of the Holy Trinity. It was built in 1610–1612 in its present Gothic-Renaissance form. After a fire in 1819, it was restored in 1836; the Neo-Romanesque tower dates from this restoration. Inside is a pewter baptismal font from 1582. The church grounds are listed as a cultural monument within the Loukov Village Heritage Zone, while the church is also situated along the Greenway Jizera long-distance cycling route.

A Neo-Gothic tomb of the Princes of Rohan was established next to the church in 1824. The former Šlik tomb in Loukov was rebuilt, cleared, and prepared for the Rohans in 1822. The statue of Saint John of Nepomuk, a Baroque work from 1719, also forms part of the historic village landscape. The Šonských Farm at House No. 27 includes a timbered granary and complements the image of the traditional rural buildings.

Nature between the Jizera and Bažantnice

The Bažantnice u Loukova Nature Reserve lies within the municipality of Loukov. The Bažantnice hunting lodge at House No. 37 is also among the area's immovable cultural monuments. Nearby, westward in the direction of Hubálov, a small pseudokarst cave lies in the right rocky slope of the Jizera valley. It contains sinter curtains formed by seeping water. The term “pseudokarst” refers to a cave that did not form through classic dissolution processes in limestone; the sinter curtains give this natural monument a particularly distinctive feature.

Cycling and Hiking Connections for Trip Planning

The Greenway Jizera passes the Church of the Holy Trinity in Loukov, establishing a clear connection with cycling right in the middle of the historic center. For hiking in the wider surrounding area, you can use Březina nad Jizerou railway station as a reference point: there, the green-marked hiking trail connects to blue- and yellow-marked trails toward Drábské světničky. In addition, a green-marked hiking trail leads from Mnichovo Hradiště to Březina nad Jizerou railway station. The different routes help you plan cycling and hiking days separately without losing sight of the cultural destinations in the village.

Loukov has public rail and bus transport. Rail access is provided via Loukov u Mnichova Hradiště railway station; three bus stops serve the built-up area.
