Strážiště – Village Culture, Landscapes and Historic Traces

Strážiště combines village traditions with landscape and cultural traces that can be found in different locations. A chapel stands on the village square, while a blue-marked hiking trail and historic mill remains can be found in the surrounding area. There are also recurring events from early summer through the Advent season. Historic Traces in Strážiště

An important part of the village’s history dates back to the time of Hradiště Cistercian Monastery: historically, Strážiště was one of the monastery’s 112 subject villages. Other visible features include the Boží muka wayside shrine ensemble in the Na Březinkách fields, which was restored in 2002, and the chapel on the village square. It was reconstructed in 2000 in cooperation with the heritage protection authorities. Finds were made in the upper section of the Zábrtky Valley northwest of Strážiště. The individual points of interest are located in different areas and connect the history of the village with the landscape around it.

Kozmice Between Two Stream Valleys

The Kozmice district of Strážiště lies on a plateau between the valleys of the Zábrdka and Mohelka streams. A stone statue of the crucified Christ between two angels, dating from 1830, stands there. A blue-marked hiking trail also runs through the area around Strážiště. The landscape can therefore be explored not only through individual historic points of interest, but also through its topographical setting and a marked route. Traditions Throughout the Year

The annual events calendar brings together several regular occasions. Strážiště hosts the traditional Jarní vánek dance event every year. At the beginning of summer, the traditional Kozmický drn nohejbal tournament takes place in Kozmice; the volunteer fire brigade helps organize it. At the end of November, Strážiště holds a traditional lantern procession that includes the release of balloons. At the beginning of December, the Advent season is traditionally opened on the village square by lighting the Christmas tree. These events give the village various cultural focal points throughout the year, without reducing Strážiště to a single attraction.

The Former Pytlíkovský Mill

Another historic point of interest lies about two kilometres from Strážiště in the Zábrdka Valley: the ruins of the former Pytlíkovský Mill are located there. At the former mill site in the area around Strážiště, collapsed walls of the building and engine room, stairs and traces of the millrace have survived. The designation as a former mill and the preserved structural elements form part of the site’s historical classification.
