Vrátno: Windmill, Treasure Find and Monuments

The Vrátno Treasure

A second historical trace leads back to 1964. At that time, the Vrátno treasure was discovered during construction work in the cadastral area of the municipality of Vrátno. The find was located in an earthenware vessel containing medieval coins and a silver signet ring. The reference to the cadastral area places the event at the municipal level and does not automatically identify a find site that can be visited today.

The entire Vrátno treasure is kept at the Muzeum Mladoboleslavska. It consists of 474 coins and several unidentifiable fragments. This precise composition gives the historical subject a tangible dimension: Vrátno is associated not merely with the name of a single find, but with a documented treasure made up of different components. For those interested in culture, the find complements the visible history of the monuments with a discovery preserved in a museum.

Another Cultural Monument

The cultural profile also includes the Vrátno homestead No. 28. It is registered as an immovable cultural monument. This designation describes the protected heritage status of the homestead and does not automatically imply public access or regular visitor facilities. Nevertheless, it is another part of Vrátno’s landscape of monuments and helps with orientation in the village.

Vrátno on the Cycling Route

There is also a specific way to explore the area by bicycle. The official Okruh Kokořínskem cycling route offers a detour before Vrátno that passes by the Vrátno windmill. This means that the mill appears not only as a cultural and historical reference point, but also as a point along the detour of this documented cycling route. Those who want to combine cycling with regional history will find a different way to experience the area here than through an exclusively monument-focused perspective.
