Knezmost: Hiking, Views and Culture
Water and Trails for Different Days
Kněžmost offers you various ways to organize a stay combining water, exercise, views and local history. Koupaliště Kněžmost has an unheated outdoor pool with a circular entrance and a mushroom-shaped water sprinkler. The Koupaliště also includes a paddling pool for children with a massage jet. A lawn for sunbathing rounds out the facilities. This means that Koupaliště can be considered a separate focus for the day alongside a hike, a bike ride or a cultural visit.
Several trails with different layouts are available for active days. The “Historické putování s Pannou klíčnicí” follows the yellow-marked hiking trail through Lesopark Důně to Valečov Castle. The route is approximately 4 km long and can be completed on foot or by bicycle. Another option is the “Mokré putování s vodníkem Škebličkou”. This approximately 3 km route leads to the ponds of Suhrovice and Drhleny and can be completed on foot or by bicycle. When making your selection, you can weigh the destination, approximate route length and mode of transport together.
The “Orientační hra” around Kněžmost offers runners and hikers two routes of 11 km and 18 km. The different lengths provide clear guidance when you want to compare various excursion options. This gives you a choice between both a shorter historical route and longer routes for a more extended day, without mixing up their respective distances.
Views in the Čížovka District
The Čížovka lookout tower is located in the Čížovka district of the municipality of Kněžmost in the Central Bohemian Region. It stands on the edge of the Český ráj Protected Landscape Area and within the Český ráj Geopark. With its almost 40-meter-high, pyramid-shaped design, it is a distinctive landmark in the landscape. The lookout tower offers views of the surrounding landscape. The combination of its distinctive shape, height and landscape setting makes the viewpoint a destination where the structure and its surroundings can be appreciated together.
Church and Town Hall: Historical Details
The parish church of “sv. Františka Serafinského” was consecrated on September 3, 1843. It is a single-nave, oriented building with a three-sided enclosed presbytery and a floor plan in the shape of a Latin cross. Its rich interior furnishings include valuable Renaissance and Baroque gravestones of former estate owners and a church dignitary. They are joined by significant heraldic and epigraphic monuments of the region. The architectural details connect the church building with the region’s architectural and commemorative history.
The townscape also preserves historic architecture. The Empire-style town hall of Kněžmost, built in 1827, retains original Baroque vaults with lunettes. In Kněžmost, sacred architecture, regional commemorative culture and a historic town hall thus complement one another as distinct cultural highlights.
