Rohatsko: Educational Trail, Klenice and History
Rohatsko on the Klenice
Rohatsko lies on a sunny, southeast-facing low terrace above the Klenice River. For visitors who want to get to know a place through its landscape, paths and history, the surrounding area offers several clearly distinguishable points of connection. Nature experiences and cultural traces are not interchangeable excursion destinations here, but are specifically connected with Rohatsko, Dolní Bousov and the surrounding landscape features.
Travelling on foot and by bicycle
The “Around the Klenice for Fun and Knowledge” educational trail passes through Rohatsko. It begins and ends at the outdoor swimming pool in Dolní Bousov. From the Rohatsko railway stop, you can join the educational trail along the local Klenice stream. Next to the educational trail is the Studánka Na Horách spring, which has its own information board. On the described route near Rohatsko, you also pass the Kyselák pond. The stream, spring and pond mark different landscape features along the way and provide several fixed reference points for orientation. This makes it possible to connect several specific points while navigating, without Rohatsko itself appearing merely as the starting point for a single walk.
For a cycling trip, Route 8148 from Dolní Bousov to Rohatsko is recommended. If you are researching accommodation, you can therefore take the location along this route and the connection to both towns into account in your planning. The educational trail through Rohatsko and the cycling route to Rohatsko represent different ways of exploring the area: one via a signposted route with its own thematic focus, the other via an explicitly recommended cycling connection.
History and cultural traces
A new copy of the statue of Saint Wenceslas stands at the cadastral boundary between Rohatsko and Dolní Bousov. At this boundary, a religious memorial and an early historic settlement site thus stand side by side. A Slavic settlement was also founded at this boundary in the 9th century. In the 13th century, the idea arose of founding an agricultural village with presumably five or six homesteads. The first written mention of Rohatsko appears in a purchase agreement for the Kost estate. Valdštejn is also recorded as a church in the vicinity of Rohatsko.
The landscape landmarks used for orientation include the U Formanské cesty hill (Dolní Bousov–Bechov) and the Mílová hora hill (Domousnice), both of which lie in the immediate vicinity of Rohatsko. The Střelečská hůra mountain is located in the surrounding area. The Přivýšina mountain lies in the wider regional surroundings of Rohatsko. U Formanské cesty and Mílová hora are closer to Rohatsko, Střelečská hůra is in its surrounding area, and Přivýšina is in the wider regional surroundings.
