Kochánky: Nature, Educational Trail and Culture in the Jizera Valley

Kochánky lies in the fertile valley of the Jizera. The village combines natural monuments, paths for cyclists and pedestrians, a park for passive recreation, and references to local and sports history. Families will find a specifically described excursion on the Krajinou Rudolfa II. educational trail: it runs through flat terrain, is equipped with 17 information panels, and reaches Kochánky at approximately route kilometre 32.

Nature between the Jizera and dry grasslands

The Stráně u Kochánek Nature Monument protects formations of common juniper on heathlands or calcareous dry grasslands. It also includes two more precisely designated biotopes: T3.4B, with broad-leaved dry grasslands without a significant occurrence of orchids and with common juniper, and T3.3D, with narrow-leaved dry grasslands without a significant occurrence of orchids. The two biotopes differ markedly in the character of their dry grasslands: T3.4B is broad-leaved, while T3.3D is narrow-leaved. This makes the landscape accessible through specific habitats rather than merely through a general panorama.

The Slepeč Nature Monument complements this natural area with its own landform. It encompasses areas in the cadastral territory of Kochánky and lies on the right bank of the Jizera on a gently south-facing plateau. Several dry erosion gullies divide the plateau towards the Jizera. The protection is aimed at the lady's-slipper orchid, which is threatened with extinction in the Pojizeří region.

Educational Trail, Cycle Route and Fishing Area

The Krajinou Rudolfa II. educational trail combines flat terrain with 17 information panels and reaches Kochánky at approximately route kilometre 32. Those approaching by bicycle can also take into account that the KČT cycle route 0241 leads from Benátky nad Jizerou towards Kochánky.

Another documented topic is the Kochánky u jezu water body, covering an area of 1.0 hectares. It belongs to the JIZERA 1 A fishing area (411 174). This creates different options for planning the day: an educational trail for pedestrians, recreational cyclists and families with children, a cycle route towards Kochánky, and a water body within a designated fishing area.

Local History and Recreation

Františka Šťastného Park commemorates the accomplished sports champion František Šťastný, who came from Kochánky, as well as other racers who contributed to the success of Czechoslovak motorcycle sport. In the centre of the village, at the site called “V Zámku” in the area of house no. 161, old walls were discovered. According to tradition, a robber baron's court is said to have stood there.

Stará škola Park serves the residents of Kochánky and other visitors to the municipality as a place for passive recreation. Thus, alongside nature and active pursuits, visitors can also choose a deliberately quieter stay and historical points of interest.
