Prodašice offers two distinct ways to plan a trip: local history marked by major upheavals and stories, and the protected habitats of the Dymokursko Natural Monument. Early accounts associate Prodašice with Dětenice; from 1404, the estate was in the hands of brothers from Dětenice. At the same time, Dymokursko includes the cadastral area of Prodašice. When looking for accommodation, you can first consider whether local history, nature, or hiking in the surrounding area will shape your stay.

Local history and a local legend

Early historical accounts associate Prodašice with Dětenice. From 1404, the estate was in the hands of brothers Jan and Vilém Okořský from Dětenice, who were also called Okoř. During the Thirty Years’ War, Prodašice was completely destroyed; not a single building remained. These associations, estate ownership, and destruction mark significant points in the town’s history and show that it was shaped by a profound historical upheaval.

Another story leads to the U Karlíčka spring. According to local legend, Prince Karel Anselm of Thurn-Taxis was saved when his runaway horses were stopped at the site of the spring. This story is part of local legend and is a different kind of account from the historical information about Dětenice and the estate. Those interested in local stories will find a specific point of reference here: the named spring and the event associated with it.

Protected habitats and hiking

The Dymokursko Natural Monument includes the cadastral area of Prodašice. It protects the vegetation of naturally eutrophic and mesotrophic waters, wet to dry meadows, oak-hornbeam forests, alder forests, and ash-alder alluvial forests. The habitats listed therefore range from bodies of water and different types of meadow to forest and alluvial forest communities. This variety offers nature-minded travelers a specific way to engage with the destination, without reducing its landscape to a single habitat.

Species mentioned in the Natural Monument include the Siberian iris (Iris sibirica), the middle spotted woodpecker (Dendrocopos medius), the green water frog (Rana esculenta), and the stag beetle (Lucanus cervus) The selection includes a plant, a bird, a frog, and a beetle. The protected landscape can therefore be understood not only through its meadows, waters, and forests, but also through the different species associated with its protected habitats.

Hiking is also worth considering when planning a trip: the area around Prodašice is well suited to hiking. This refers to the immediate surroundings of the destination; the Natural Monument, in turn, represents the protected habitats described above. When deciding how to spend your stay, you can therefore weigh two different nature interests against each other: hiking outdoors or exploring the diversity of the protected area.

Local traditions and finding accommodation

The Prodašice Volunteer Fire Brigade and Prodašice Municipal Office invite visitors to the traditional raising of the Maypole and burning of the witch’s bonfire. Dates and arrangements may vary. If you would like to include either event in your trip plans, check the latest announcement in advance. This way, the tradition can be a possible occasion for your trip without assuming a specific date.

The local history features named historical events and a local legend; the nature perspective encompasses protected habitats and species, while the suitability for hiking relates to the surrounding area.
