Discover Židněves: Culture, the Klenice and local history

Židněves brings together a Neo-Gothic chapel, archaeological traces, the Klenice River and sporting opportunities. The Chapel of Saint Anne characterizes the town centre with its architecture, while the chapel and settlement point to a considerably older past. In terms of landscape, the Klenice area, the Chloumecký Ridge and the Upper Turonian bedrock are part of the character of the village.

Chapel and archaeological traces

The Neo-Gothic Chapel of Saint Anne forms a distinctive architectural landmark in the town centre. Its design belongs to a different period from the archaeological traces found in the municipality and near the railway station. For visitors interested in cultural history, Židněves thus combines a visible building with remains of settlement and cultural areas dating far back into the past.

A large prehistoric sanctuary was discovered within the municipality. It consisted of a circular ditch with a wooden palisade. Another trace lies near the Židněves railway station: a settlement from the Roman Imperial period was located there. The sanctuary and the settlement therefore belong not only to different periods, but also lie at different spatial reference points within the surrounding area.

A Baroque statue of Saint John of Nepomuk is also documented at the entrance to Mladá Boleslav. The statue there is a replica made of artificial sandstone; the original probably dates from the second half of the 18th century. This detail also preserves the distinction between the work visible today and the older original.

The Klenice, natural monument and geological setting

Part of the Chloumecký Ridge south of Židněves is a natural monument. Židněves lies on Upper Turonian bedrock consisting of marlstone, claystone and limestone. Thus, both a protected landscape area south of the village and the rocks beneath it form part of the municipality’s natural setting.

The Klenice River has always shaped the natural conditions and life in the area around Židněves. Its name also appears in the “Pohár Klenice” competition. This includes the categories men, women, youth, older children, younger children and the preparatory class, thereby addressing several age and participant groups.

Sporting opportunities and events

The Židněves sports complex is located in the southern part of the village between the railway line and the Klenice stream. Its location is therefore defined by a transport route on one side and a body of water on the other. The tennis court in Židněves can be rented by the public through an administrator and a sign-up list. Those wishing to include tennis in their stay will also find a regularly recurring event: Every year at the beginning of September, the Židněves Tennis Club organizes doubles tournaments for women and men.
