Discover the Vyškov District
Between Haná and the Drahanská vrchovina
The Vyškov region lies at the intersection of Haná and the Drahanská vrchovina. A tranquil landscape, villages, gentle hills and forest paths shape the character of the region.
Hiking trails through valleys and forests
Several described routes make the landscape tangible. The Kolem řeky Hané route runs from Vyškov to Ivanovice na Hané and is suitable for hikers and cyclists. Those looking for a shorter, clearly defined path will find the Údolím Velké Hané, a six-kilometre route from Hamilton to Rychtářov that follows the valley.
Paths through the Litenčická pahorkatina lead into its forests. The Krajinou Větrníků route leads to the Větrníky National Nature Monument. The Ždánický les Nature Park is also one of the region’s distinctive landscapes: it is associated with deep deciduous forests, rare plants and wildlife. In addition, the Vyškov region has ponds suitable for swimming, walks, stops during a cycling trip and relaxation.
Cycling with different focuses
The area offers cyclists several options with different characteristics. The 15-kilometre Cyklochodník Cukrovarská follows the former narrow-gauge railway from Vyškov to Kozlany. The route’s former function remains part of its history, distinguishing it from an ordinary connecting route. Cycle Route 5029 connects Vyškov with Orlovice, Hvězdlice and Nesovice.
Another option is the circuit on the battlefield of Slavkov starting from Křenovice. It is considered an easy 20-kilometre ride with 257 metres of elevation gain. This makes it possible to choose accommodation according to your preferred daily itinerary: forest and valley paths, a historic railway line, connections between several towns or a themed cycling circuit.
Culture, history and regional specialities
There are also independent reasons to visit beyond the paths and ponds. The LHS Vyškov collection includes two OT-64 R2M armoured personnel carriers with radio equipment. The Mohyla míru is a war memorial dedicated to all the victims of the Battle of Slavkov in December 1805.
For a sweet or regional break, the researched area offers several different places. CUKRÁRNA A KAVÁRNA JANSKÝ is a family confectionery founded in Vyškov in 1908. CUKRÁRNA U SKÁCELŮ is a small family confectionery in Švábenice. GARDEN secrets in Rousínov produces syrups, extra jams, baked teas, cakes and other sweet specialities. ŠNECI Z RYBNÍČKU produces snail specialities in Rybníček, while ŠIMONOVA MLÉKÁRNA offers dairy products from Zvonovice.
Getting around locally
Vyškov is part of the IDS JMK integrated transport system. Travellers can use trains, regional buses and urban public transport there with the same ticket and under comparable conditions. The Vyškov Tourist Information Centre provides information about attractions, transport, accommodation, and cultural and sporting activities in Vyškov and its surroundings. It also sells souvenirs, maps, postcards and promotional materials. This information point can therefore be particularly useful when you want to further plan your excursions between nature, cycling and culture.
