Podivice – Views, History and Cycling Route

Podivice is a destination for travelers who want to combine landscape and cultural history. Traces of the Training Area

An unusual side of Podivice is revealed by the 13 reinforced-concrete bunkers that still commemorate the period of the military training area dating from 1941. The former woodland area of Podivice has been incorporated into the Březina military training area since 1977. Both details belong to the area's history but refer to different levels: the bunkers recall the period of 1941, while the incorporation of the former woodland area has been in place since 1977.

Sacred Art and Archaeological Evidence

In front of the church stands a sandstone statue of Saint Anne, integrated into the church enclosure. The statue depicts Saint Anne with the Virgin Mary and an open book. These details in particular make the area outside the church an independent point of cultural and historical interest.

Other traces include the “Na Valech” archaeological site below Dudín in the woods. The remains of an old fortified settlement are located there, as indicated by excavations. The site thus represents a different form of history than the bunkers or the statue: not a preserved structure, but remains and archaeological findings shape its historical character.

Ferdinandsko and Cycling Route 5041

The Ferdinandsko ensemble is significant from an urban-planning, architectural and cultural-historical perspective. The historic Baroque ensemble of buildings comprising the Ferdinandsko hunting lodge, dating from 1757, also includes a forester's lodge, a gamekeeper's house, a spring and former stables. The forester's lodge, gamekeeper's house, spring and former stables are separate components of the ensemble alongside the hunting lodge.

Cycling route 5041 connects Zelená Hora, Podivice and Sněhotice over 9.5 km. In this way, the route brings three places together in a single connection and complements the cultural and historical points of interest with a cycling theme.
