Local History from the Foundation to the Manufactory

Podomí emerged during the colonization of the region in the 13th century. The first written mention dates from 1349; at that time, the settlement was called Boda. Podomí was founded as a two-row Waldhufendorf, a forest-strip village. This historical settlement form is therefore part of the village’s traditional character, along with the later development of its individual parts.

The Podomka stream divided the original village and its cadastral territory into an eastern and a western part. The eastern part of Podomí was resettled between 1550 and 1567. The village’s economic history can also be linked to a specific date: in 1803, a weaving and spinning manufactory was established on the Podomí estate.

A sandstone monument commemorates the more recent history. It was erected in 1921 in memory of 15 residents of Podomí who fell in the First World War. Later, the monument was moved from the crossroads in the village center to the park on the grounds of the new school. Streams, Ponds and the Historical Surroundings

The Podomský stream flows through Podomí and Jedovnice. It feeds the Budkovický and Olšovec ponds and makes the connection between the villages and the bodies of water a distinct landscape theme. The so-called Rájecký Pond lies in the area of the vanished half of Podomí. It is used by people from Podomí, mostly children and young people, for winter games and sport fishing.

The vanished settlement of Hamlíkov is also part of the historical landscape. It lies in the cadastral territory of Podomí, about 2 kilometers southeast of Podomí. Ten relics have been preserved at Hamlíkov. The vanished half of Podomí covers 256 hectares and is three-fifths forested.
