Rousínov: Churches, Jewish Heritage and Historical Traces

Rousínov combines Baroque sacred buildings, Jewish history and significant sites of remembrance into a culturally distinctive destination in the Czech Republic. Baroque Churches and Living Tradition

One of the defining buildings is the Kostel sv. Maří Magdalény. The Baroque church was built from 1699 to 1706 based on a design by the Italian architect Domenico Martinelli. Services are held regularly in the church on Sundays at 7:30 a.m.

The former synagogue in Rousínov was built in 1591 as a simple structure. Today, it is used as the Sbor Cyrila a Metoděje by the Czechoslovak Hussite Church. The interior can be visited during services. This present-day use preserves both the building’s historical designation and its current function, without losing sight of the site’s earlier history.

The Jewish heritage can also be explored via the walk “Zákoutí židovské čtvrti v Rousínově”, which leads to places connected with Jewish life in Rousínov. According to the information boards, the walk also includes a newly established path along the wall of the Jewish cemetery. The cemetery itself is closed to the public for safety reasons. However, the gravestones can be seen from the path along the cemetery wall. This distinction is important for your planning: you can observe the visible historical traces without assuming access to the cemetery.

Historical Sites of Remembrance and Orientation

Another notable point is the Pomník orby císaře Josefa II. u Slavíkovic. It stands on the left side of a first-class road at the exit from Rousínov in the direction of Brno. The monument commemorates an event from 1769, when Emperor Joseph II plowed a furrow near Slavíkovice. The site thus connects a specific historical episode with a clearly described location at the town exit.

For travel planning, the bus station in Rousínov has eight stops: two for long-distance bus routes, four for regional bus routes and two for local bus routes. Since December 19, 2005, regular IDS JMK bus and train services have operated in the vicinity of Rousínov on routes 107, 602, 631, 730, 731 and 732.
