Nesovice: Castle History, Nature and Family Outings

Nesovice combines a distinctive castle history with landscapes along the Litava River and excursions into the natural surroundings of Ždánický les. This gives you several ways to experience the town: historical discoveries around Nové Zámky, paths through forests and protected nature, as well as an outdoor swimming pool with facilities for children. The railway station is also useful when choosing accommodation: Nesovice lies on route 340 between Brno and Uherské Hradiště.

Castle History and Small Cultural Attractions

Construction of Nové Zámky Castle in Nesovice began in 1561 under its then owner, Záviš z Víckova. The castle was built according to plans by an unknown Italian architect but remained unfinished. Of the planned four-winged building, only the north and east sections have survived. In 1645, Nové Zámky was looted and damaged. This unfinished history, shaped by subsequent changes, is precisely what distinguishes the castle from a fully preserved representative residence.

A footpath to the fenced Nové Zámky complex passes along the Hvězdlička stream. In the area below Nesovice Castle, there is also the Chapel of Saint Anthony, which was converted from a bell tower in 1912. In Nesovice itself, the Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk commemorates another chapter in the town's history: it was consecrated in September 1936 and houses an old statue of the saint that was moved here from a demolished chapel. Pavel Jan Křtitel Souček was a patron of the chapel's construction.

The cultural character of the area also includes the Nesovice district of Letošov. There is a small Marian chapel there dating from 1921. If you would like to include local traditions in your stay, the Hody festival is also of interest; it is celebrated in Nesovice at the end of June.

The Litava River, Forest Paths and Protected Nature

Nesovice stretches along the Litava River and lies on the northern edge of Ždánický les Nature Park. In the surrounding area west of Nesovice is the Malhotky National Nature Monument. It protects dry grasslands, thermophilous oak forests and habitats of rare orchid species. These include the purple orchid and the military orchid. Malhotky therefore offers a distinctly different focus for a day in nature than the castle history: here, special habitats and plants take center stage.

There are also specific options for hiking and cycling excursions. On the green hiking trail from Nesovice railway station, the path leads through the forest to the U Kříže signpost, where a wooden shelter provides a place to rest. A 33-kilometre excursion route leads to a trail junction with an information board about the local flora. A cycling route described by the municipality leads from Nesovice railway station towards Vyškov via cycle route 5029. When planning your trip, you can therefore take different types of activities into account without losing sight of the cultural attractions.

An Outing with Children and Choosing Accommodation

Koupaliště Nesovice outdoor swimming pool has a children's paddling pool and a beach volleyball court. These two facilities complement the historical and natural attractions with a leisure-oriented option for a day when the focus is not exclusively on the castle, chapels or hiking trails.

When looking for a hotel or other accommodation in Nesovice, you can therefore first decide which experiences should shape your stay: castle history and chapels, paths along the Litava River and through the forest, nature observation at Malhotky, or a stay with the outdoor swimming pool as an additional destination. Nesovice railway station is a specific point of reference, as are the described cycling route towards Vyškov and the hiking trail to the U Kříže signpost.
