Račice-Pístovice Among Wooded Hills and Cultural Heritage

Račice-Pístovice combines a landscape characterized by comparatively high, densely wooded hills with a distinctive local history. In the southwestern part of Račice, Zámek Račice stands as a dominant landmark. At the same time, paths lead into the Rakovecké Valley and to a nature trail that connects observation of nature with regional history. This creates a destination where different interests meet within a closely connected thematic area: culture surrounding the castle, walks through the valley, and discoveries related to geology, flora and fauna.

The Rakovec Nature Trail and the Jermak Memorial

The Rakovec Nature Trail is 7 km long and includes 10 information panels. They focus on the history, geology, flora and fauna of the area. The starting point is approximately 2 km beyond Račice in the direction of Ruprechtov, at the Jermak Memorial.

The Jermak Memorial commemorates the landing of a parachute group in 1944. Those who choose the nature trail therefore encounter not only the landscape of the Rakovecké Valley, but also a specific chapter of history. The information panels add several factual perspectives to the route, so the outing is not limited to a single attraction.

Zámek Račice: Castle History with a Current Notice

The history of Zámek Račice dates back to a Gothic castle from the mid-13th century. This developed into a Renaissance château, which Hanuš Haugvic had rebuilt between 1568 and 1585. In the 1830s, Baron Mundy altered the château in the Empire style. This sequence makes the complex an illustrative example of several historical building phases, reflected in its development from a medieval origin into the later château.

For current visit planning, it is important to note that the main palace of Zámek Račice is currently being renovated. Therefore, all sightseeing tours are temporarily closed; guided tours are also not currently taking place. The castle history thus remains an essential part of the character of the place, but the immediate tour of the main palace is currently restricted.

The castle grounds include the Church of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary. It can be visited during church services or on special occasions announced by the municipality. Another historical detail can be found near the entrance to Račice: the statues of Saint Florian and Saint Wendelin, dating from the mid-18th century, stand on the road bridge over the main road. The High Baroque statues come from the workshop of the renowned Olomouc sculptor J. A. Heinze.

Walks, Cycling Tourism and Czech Cuisine

The Rakovecké Valley is used for walks year-round and is a popular area for hiking and cycling tourism. The valley thus complements Račice’s cultural and historical attractions with a landscape suited to various types of outings. Those choosing accommodation in Račice-Pístovice can therefore select their preferred focus between castle history, the 7 km-long nature trail and the paths in the Rakovecké Valley, without reducing the special features of the place to a single attraction.
