Discover Vyškov: Animal Experiences and Moravian Culture

Vyškov combines vivid animal experiences with historic buildings and museums. At ZOO PARK Vyškov, the focus is on keeping domestic and farm animals from around the world. Another vivid aspect of regional life is showcased by the Hanácký statek. The complex is a replica of a farmstead from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Traditional materials such as thatch for the roof and clay plaster inside are part of it, as are period farm features and agricultural equipment. This makes it possible to understand how closely historic everyday culture was connected with farm work and regional craft traditions.

The surrounding area also offers a clearly defined setting for active days. The 60-kilometre Srdcem jižní Moravy cycling route leads from Vyškov to Blansko and connects the attractive Drahanská vrchovina and Moravian Karst areas. Vyškov can therefore be considered a starting point for a trip in which cultural discoveries and a longer cycling tour provide different focal points. The route is characterized not only by its length but also by its connection of two distinct landscape regions.

Castle, Museum and Historic Details

Vyškov Castle was converted from a Gothic castle dating from the 15th century between 1665 and 1682. Today, it houses the Muzeum Vyškovska with eight permanent exhibitions and changing exhibitions. An extensive collection of vyškovské lidové keramiky also showcases a regional craft tradition: its production had a basis in Vyškov from the early 18th century until 1945.

The castle complex includes the Zámecká zahrada with a loggia dating from 1673. It has seven arcades and Tuscan columns; the upper part is decorated with a balustrade. Another historic testimony is the Chapel of St. Anne, a Renaissance building from the 16th century. Fragments of Renaissance wall paintings are preserved inside it, signed with the year 1584.

The Renesanční radnice was built in 1569. Its surviving elements include remnants of a Renaissance arcade, Renaissance inlaid doors and stucco decoration from the 18th century. The former Vyškov synagogue is part of the town's heritage conservation zone. Its restoration in 2024 highlighted its art-historical significance in connection with the history of Jews in Moravia. It is precisely these different historical layers that give a cultural journey through Vyškov several perspectives, without reducing the historic sites to a single era.

Market Life in Vyškov

A contemporary addition to the historic sights is the Vyškovské trhy market on Masarykovo náměstí. It takes place every odd Wednesday and offers baked goods, cheese, fruit, vegetables and wicker goods. Thus, alongside the museum, castle and architectural history, regional products and traditional market goods are also part of the town's public image.
