Studnice Between Nature and Village History

Studnice lies in the southwestern part of the Drahanská vrchovina. The village combines a varied landscape with tangible traces of history: a themed hiking trail begins in the village square, protected wetlands lie below Studnice, and around the Church of St. Giles you can encounter evidence from several centuries. This makes it possible to shape your stay around exercise, observing nature and a walk through the village’s history.

Hiking Trail with Wooden Information Panels

A particularly vivid discovery is the “Za pověstmi Drahanské vrchoviny” hiking trail. It begins in Studnice’s village square and is approximately 6.4 km long. A total of 12 information panels, designed as wooden sculptures, stand along the trail. The route therefore combines exercise with a narrative form of orientation: the information is not displayed on ordinary panels, but appears in specially designed wooden works. Studnické louky and the Odrůvky Wetlands

Below Studnice, in the direction of Kulířov, the Studnické louky nature reserve is located at the site of Pod Fasůvkou. It protects wet meadow communities in a stream valley where protected plant species occur. The protected area also includes a meandering stream and its riparian vegetation. The landscape here is therefore not a uniform expanse of meadows, but a wet habitat shaped by the watercourse, stream banks and plant life.

Wetlands also play an important role in Odrůvky, a locality within the municipality of Studnice. Revitalized wetlands and an orchard provide a habitat for numerous animals and are also a popular place for walks and recreation. In the Odrůvky wetlands, visitors can observe carp, grass carp, wild geese and other animal and plant species. Those who want to experience nature not merely as a backdrop, but as a tangible community of living organisms, will find a second focal point here alongside Studnické louky.

Historical Details Around St. Giles

The village’s history can be read in several individual works of art and memorial objects. The tower of the Church of St. Giles houses a death bell dating from 1552. A statue of Saint John of Nepomuk from 1831 stands in front of the church. Studnice is also home to an altarpiece depicting St. Giles, painted by Josef Hellich of Prague in 1854. The war memorial was restored in 2017 in cooperation with the Mechlov association. Together, these traces do not provide an abstract overview, but rather concrete points of interest for a walk through the village’s history.

Reaching Studnice by Bicycle

Away from the main roads, Studnice can also be reached via a cycle path that passes the ruins of Kuchlov and Stagnov castles. The village thus also appears as a destination along a route connecting natural surroundings with a historic landscape.
