Historic Sites and Museums between Kolín and Kouřim

In Kolín, the city centre is designated as an urban conservation area. The Gothic Church of Saint Bartholomew is one of the national cultural monuments; the old Jewish cemetery and synagogue are also important cultural monuments. Other notable historic sites include the town fortifications of Kouřim, which are a national cultural monument, and the hill above Lipany. It commemorates the Battle of Lipany in 1434. The Veigertovský House offers several historical perspectives on the city's history. A permanent exhibition traces Kolín's development from its foundation in the mid-13th century to the mid-19th century. It also displays a document issued by Přemysl Otakar II in 1261, described as the oldest surviving mention of Kolín. An insect exhibition complements this offering with nine basic biotopes of the Kolínsko region and their insects. Muzeum Kouřimska focuses on Slavic, medieval, and later historical Kouřim. A long-term exhibition explores the early medieval hillfort of Stará Kouřim; a multimedia zone presents the documentaries Objevená Kouřim and Za tajemstvím tismického zlatníka. The Muzeum lidových staveb v Kouřimi presents monuments of folk architecture from central, eastern, and northern Bohemia. Protected Landscapes and Quiet Nature Experiences

Žehuňský rybník is a national nature monument in Okres Kolín. The Libický luh national nature reserve also extends into the district. This floodplain area is the largest continuous complex of floodplain forest in Bohemia. Veltrubský luh protects former branches of the Elbe with varying water depths, as well as floodplain forests with a preserved species composition of trees. The area also preserves habitat for the fire-bellied toad. Libušino jezírko is formed by a spring in the eastern part of Stará Kouřim. Those who want to combine landscape and views can reach Bedřichova vyhlídka via 66 steps. In clear weather, the view extends across the Elbe lowlands. The car park is approximately 250 metres from the observation tower.

Rail, Cycling and Special Excursions

The Prague–Kolín–Česká Třebová railway line, designated as lines 010 and 011, crosses Okres Kolín and forms part of the Czech transport corridors. The Kolín–Kutná Hora cycling route can be reached from Kolín by train and follows the EuroVelo 4 towards Kutná Hora. From Zásmuky, you can return to Kouřim by bus or continue towards Bečváry or Český Brod for rail connections. A special historical journey is offered by the Řepařská drážka in Sendražice, part of Kolín. Vinařství Klučov revived a local wine tradition in 2017. Today, the winery operates with a modern facility and a large tasting cellar.
