Tři Dvory – Elbe, cycle path and local history

Tři Dvory combines a landscape shaped by the Elbe and the last foothills of the Železné hory with unusual geological and historical traces. This makes the village suitable for travellers who do not wish to consider nature, activity, water and history separately. When choosing accommodation, it is worth noting that the attractions are spread across Tři Dvory itself, the connection to Kolín and a special geological site on the north-western edge.

Landscape and geological features

The landscape around Tři Dvory is shaped in the south-east by the last foothills of the Železné hory and by the Elbe. These two elements give the village a clear landscape setting.

A special discovery is Eklogit u Tří Dvorů. It is an interesting geological locality registered by the Czech Geological Survey. The rock consists of amphibolite and garnet-bearing eclogite. The Eklogit u Tří Dvorů quarry lies on the north-western edge of Tři Dvory and is freely accessible. Anyone interested in observing nature and in how landscapes are formed will find a specific place here where the geological character of the surrounding area can be seen.

Cycle path, outdoor swimming pool and different day plans

For active days, there is a paved and illuminated cycle path between Tři Dvory and Kolín. It can be used by pedestrians, cyclists and inline skaters. The connection is therefore not limited to a single sport but allows for different forms of transport. If you would like to take different interests into account when planning your trip, this path offers its own option between staying in the village and being active.

Tři Dvory also has an outdoor swimming pool. Alongside the landscape and cycle path, spending time by the water is therefore another documented possibility in the village. A village with a multifaceted history

The first written mention of Tři Dvory dates from 1347. A devastating event followed in the spring of 1690, when the village burned down completely. After the fire, Tři Dvory was completely rebuilt closer to the Elbe. The village’s history today therefore includes both a long written record and a clearly documented rebuilding following a catastrophe.

Another historical landmark is the monument to the fallen of the First World War in Tři Dvory. It dates from 1921. Together with the history of the fire and rebuilding, it offers an additional way of engaging with the village that goes beyond its landscape and leisure opportunities.

Traces from the La Tène period in Kolín

The area’s more distant past is also tangible: pottery fragments from the La Tène period, that is, from the 3rd to 2nd century BC, found in the Tři Dvory area are housed in the museum in Kolín. This find adds an archaeological dimension to the region.
