Chotutice: Chapel, Natural Monument and Local History

Chotutice offers several different ways to explore history, nature and local life. A chapel with two clearly identifiable construction phases, a natural monument in the surrounding area, a railway station on two lines and local events give trip planning several possible focuses. The town may therefore be interesting for you if you are not looking for just one attraction, but would like to combine historical details with paths through the landscape.

Chapel and Traces of Local History

The chapel in Chotutice known as the Chapel of the Virgin Mary was originally built in 1805 as a Neoclassical chapel of unknown dedication. In 1909, it was remodelled in the Art Nouveau style according to plans by Ing. Josef Koněrze. The two construction phases make the building a specific example of how different architectural periods can be read in one place.

You will also encounter distinctive landmarks beyond the chapel. In Chotutice, a lime-tree avenue leads to a cross. The cross in Chotutice was restored in 2022 at the municipality’s expense. The war memorial stands in the town centre at the intersection of Průběžná and Viselecká Streets; a park surrounds the memorial. Historical and commemorative points of reference are therefore found not only in buildings, but also in the townscape.

Natural Monument and Trails

The Lom u Radimi Natural Monument is located near Chotutice, between the southwestern edge of Radim and the Chotutice railway stop on the left bank of the Výrovka. It protects an example of the nearshore facies of the Upper Cretaceous. The natural monument can be accessed via a branch of the green Pečky–Kouřim hiking trail or by following the signs for the Cestou za trilobity educational trail. This makes it possible to plan a stay focused on nature and hiking without losing sight of the town’s historical themes.

Railway Station and Travel Orientation

Chotutice railway station is located on Line 012, on the Pečky–Bečváry and Bošice–Kouřim routes. This railway connection is a clear point of reference for trip planning. Depending on your personal interests, you can therefore pay particular attention when choosing accommodation to the combination of local history, nature trails or regional mobility, without assuming any specific accommodation features.

Local Event and Archaeological Find

The Bramboračka Cup is an annual football tournament in Chotutice. The 2026 Bramboračka Cup will take place in Malá Kopaná in Chotutice. A Roman silver coin dating from AD 251–253 was also found north of Chotutice, in the Ve Slínech area. For trip planning, this offers another perspective on the town: in addition to visible buildings and landscapes, a specific archaeological find is also part of Chotutice’s history.

If you would like to decide before searching for accommodation which focus suits your stay, Chotutice offers nature trails, local history, railway connections and a possible event date as different themes side by side. You can find more places for your trip planning here: Kšely, Velký Osek, Přistoupim, Žehuň, Radim, Žiželice, Červené Pečky, Malotice.
