Lošany: Church, Fortress and Landscape
Lošany offers several different starting points for a journey through history and landscape. These include the neo-Gothic Church of St. George, Tvrz Lošany Fortress, Baroque wayside shrines outside the village and a signposted cycle tour that passes through Lošany.
Church and Fortress as Historical Points of Reference
The neo-Gothic Church of St. George in Lošany was built in 1895–1896 by the architect Ludvík Lábler. It was consecrated on 16 July 1896. Tvrz Lošany Fortress probably dates from the second half of the 14th century.
Tvrz Lošany Fortress is a 16.5-metre-high square stone tower and is currently privately owned. The building’s historic character derives both from its probable period of construction and from its distinctive tower form. For your planning, it is important not to confuse the documented ownership status with a statement about specific sightseeing opportunities.
Wayside Shrines and Local History
Outside Lošany there are two Baroque wayside shrines, which can be distinguished by their location details. Boží muka Kolovrat is located in the direction of Kolín, while Boží muka P. Marie is in the direction of Polní Voděrady. Both wayside markers complement the larger historic buildings with smaller religious monuments in the area surrounding the village.
There are also two communal graves of fallen soldiers in the vicinity of the church in Lošany. Another historical connection reaches back to the Battle of Kolín, which took place near Lošany in 1757. A field hospital was established in Lošany during the battle. Thus, when exploring the village, you encounter both ecclesiastical architectural history and memorial sites as well as military-historical connections.
Landscape and Cycling
Lošany and Lošánky lie on opposite gentle slopes. They are connected by a pond through which the Pekelský stream flows. For active days, there is the 41-kilometre cycling excursion “Cyklovýlet za Labskými vyhlídkami a údolím Polepky”, whose route passes through Lošany. The specific route length provides reliable guidance when comparing different cycling ideas for your stay.
Another Historical Exhibition Topic
The exhibition at Památník tří odbojů covers the history of the Mašín family as well as the history of three Czechoslovak resistance movements. In addition to church, fortress and military history, this introduces an exhibition topic concerned with the political and social conflicts of Czechoslovak history.
Lošany as a Location for Searching for Accommodation
When considering a hotel or other accommodation in Lošany, you can first determine your preferred focus: historic buildings, smaller monuments and memorial sites, the landscape around the pond or the cycling route that passes through the village. This distinction helps you tailor your further search to the type of stay without implying individual accommodation features or a specific location.
