Discover Konárovice
Konárovice combines remarkable buildings, religious art and a landscape in which forests and viticulture create distinctive accents. If you would like to combine cultural discoveries with walks, cycling tours or regional history during your trip, you will find several different starting points here for planning your visit.
Churches and Local History in Konárovice
Konárovice is home to the parish Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. The protected church grounds include a tower, a mortuary, a boundary wall with two gates and a niche chapel. The chapel with the statue of Saint John of Nepomuk stands on elevated ground beside the road at the southeastern edge of Konárovice. It contains a life-size sandstone statue; an inscription dating from 1764 is located on its pedestal. The buildings represent different scales: the protected church grounds comprise several elements, while at the chapel a single artwork with an inscription directs attention to a specific detail. Together with the village square, they form a village scene in which sacred and secular history can be recognized side by side.
The village square also preserves an independent historical connection. A Baroque hospital operated there from 1667 to 1872. For exploring the local history, sacred buildings, individual decorative details and a building with a clearly documented time frame thus complement one another.
Castle, Marian Column and Stone Details
The Marian Column in Konárovice is an octagonal stone column topped by a statue of the Madonna. The coats of arms of the Harrach and Lobkowicz families are displayed on its shaft. Konárovice Castle is a four-winged building with a mansard roof; a coat of arms of the Harrach family is located above the entrance. The castle is listed under number 20777/2–794 in the Central Register of Immovable Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic.
These details make Konárovice particularly interesting if, during your stay, you would like to pay attention not only to large structures but also to smaller features on columns, pedestals and entrances. The combination of castle architecture, the church grounds and the village square offers different ways of approaching the history of the village, without all the sights belonging to the same type of building.
Forests, Walks and Viticulture
The mixed forests around Konárovice are suitable for walks, cycling tours and especially mushroom picking. This provides a nature-oriented focus alongside the buildings. Grapes have been cultivated on the sunny southern slopes near Konárovice since the second half of the 14th century; this is documented in writing for the year 1588. The Zadní Zájezd vineyard site near Konárovice was replanted at the beginning of 2019.
This allows you to plan your trip around culture, activity and the long tradition of viticulture without combining the individual offerings into a single attraction.
