Discover Tachov District

Tachov District combines tranquil border landscapes, deep river valleys, mining history, castles and spa culture. This creates a varied journey for you between experiences in nature and cultural discoveries: in the Český les Protected Landscape Area, border forests alternate with pastures, meadows, wetlands, open shrublands and moors. There are also paths for walks and cycling tours, historic places and special destinations that allow for a variety of holiday days.

Landscapes for trails, gorges and viewpoints

The Mže Valley forms a deep recreational landscape that is gorge-like in places. A similar character can be found in the nature park along the Kosový potok. A hike along the Kosí potok leads to the Čertovce rock and a forest waterfall that plunges into a deep gorge. The Skalní Defilé educational trail follows the Mže Valley to a viewpoint on a spilite massif; the trail is also 1.6 kilometres long and ends with a panorama of the Svojšín Valley.

The Hradišťský vrch educational trail is approximately 5.5 kilometres long and takes around two to three hours. Its special feature is the combination of a nature reserve with a partially flooded quarry that serves as a natural swimming area. Those looking for a region with clearly distinguishable landscapes will find forest, valleys, rocks and water here in a sequence that is not limited to a single destination.

Mining, castles and château culture

The Stříbro Mining Open-Air Museum tells more than 800 years of mining history and includes an accessible 700-metre-long tunnel. Access to the visitor tunnel at the Hornické muzeum is almost barrier-free: there are only three steps, which can be overcome with a pushchair or wheelchair. The Stříbro Town Museum is located in a former Minorite monastery and covers local crafts, military history and folk woodcarving.

Gutštejn is a fourteenth-century ruin in the wooded Hadovka Valley south of Konstantinovy Lázně. Svojšín Chateau provides a different historical accent, with its French garden, restored interiors, portrait gallery of the owners and history exhibition. The two destinations represent different forms of cultural experience: the secluded ruin landscape on the one hand, and the landscaped château complex with interiors and an exhibition on the other.

Brewery history and special culinary destinations

In Chodová Planá are the historic cellars of Chodovar, which were hewn into granite and date from the fourteenth century. The brewery tours include the malt house, brewhouse, open fermentation room and a beer tasting. Chodovar is considered the oldest brewery in West Bohemia. At the Ve Skále restaurant, you can dine in Chodovar's historic cellars, allowing the place to make its history tangible not only through displays but also through the setting itself.

An unusual wellness experience is offered by the beer bath in Chodová Planá. The bath has a temperature of 34 °C and contains Ilsano mineral water, dark bathing beer, live brewer's yeast, hop grains and crushed herbs. In Konstantinovy Lázně, by contrast, the focus is on the Prusík Spring pavilion and mineral water rich in carbon dioxide.

Cycling with different focuses

Around Konstantinovy Lázně is the Dětský cykloráj route, designed for families and also suitable for inline skating. It includes a forest park with play and exercise facilities. The route can be reached by train and uses local, road and tourist cycle-route markings. A reconstructed lookout tower stands on Havran, the highest peak in the Tachovsko region. A network of cycling routes around Havran crosses both the Czech and German sides of the border.
