Cebiv – Castle History and Cycling Routes

Cebiv combines a distinctive castle history with two different cycling themes. The castle stands on a gentle rise amid the village buildings, while signposted cycling routes pass through the village. This makes it a destination where historical discoveries and active days can be combined within the same village setting.

Cebiv Castle and Baroque History

The expansive Cebiv Castle stands out with its H-shaped ground plan and Baroque façades. In an H-shaped ground plan, a central section and two side wings come together to form a clearly structured castle complex. Its masonry preserves traces of several construction phases, ranging from the Late Gothic period to final alterations during the era of socialist Czechoslovakia. This chronological span makes the castle an unusually vivid place for anyone who wants to experience architecture not merely as a uniform style, but as history that has developed over time.

The east wing contains a chapel whose early Baroque doors and barrel vault date from the reconstruction after the 1657 fire. Another cultural facet is Cebivská náves, a traditional event held in the castle courtyard since 2014 as part of the summer Baroque festival. The program includes historical sword fighting and demonstrations of traditional crafts. In Cebiv, therefore, the focus is not only on the castle’s architectural forms, but also on traditional craft techniques and historical re-enactments.

Paper Mill on the Hadovka

The paper mill in Cebiv is also part of the village’s history. It was built in 1821 as a stone structure on the Hadovka stream and includes a weir and a millrace.
