Kostelec U StÅ™Ãbra: Golf, History and Chapels
Golf, Landscape and a Multifaceted History
Kostelec U StÅ™Ãbra represents a choice of destinations where golf, landscape and cultural history can all be experienced side by side. Alfrédov is particularly distinctive: the history of the place dates back to the 12th century, when it once belonged to Kladruby Monastery. A later turning point followed in 1825. Alfréd I. Windischgrätz bought the Alfrédov estate and gave the village of VÅ¡etice the name Alfrédov. The local history thus brings together medieval connections and a clearly documented renaming from the 19th century.
Alfrédov: Golf in a Distinctive Landscape
The Alfrédov golf course covers 78 hectares. It is located in a picturesque landscape with wooded areas and numerous bodies of water; a centuries-old avenue of lime trees runs through its centre. In addition to its golfing character, this gives the area a strong landscape identity that sets it apart from a purely sporting facility. Tee times on the golf course can be reserved at the club reception. For chronological context, it is also recorded that the golf course opened to the public on 2 September 2000.
Chapels with Distinct Architectural Histories
In Nedražice, the Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk stands on the edge of the settlement. The hexagonal building is covered by a dome with a lantern and has murals inside; the chapel was built around 1750. It is well maintained. In Ostrov u StÅ™Ãbra stands the Chapel of Saint Wenceslas and Saint Adalbert. It was built between 1729 and 1756, while the tower was added later. The two chapels therefore represent different historical building projects and dates, without their architecture needing to be reduced to the same pattern.
The Château and Farm Complexes in Alfrédov and Nedražice
The history of Nedražice Château also adds to the picture. A Baroque statue of the Madonna has been preserved on the château gate, which was remodelled at a later date. The core of the château probably dates back to a fortress mentioned in the first half of the 14th century. The word probably is important here: it describes a historical attribution, not a confirmed dating of the present building core.
The Alfrédov complex includes a recently restored small château, a distinctive fountain and a large park area. The Alfrédov farm complex has a rectangular courtyard, single-storey farm buildings on both sides and a two-storey residential building dating approximately from the late 18th century. It is precisely these different components – golf course, park, farm complex and château connection – that give the selection around Kostelec U StÅ™Ãbra several cultural and landscape points of interest.
