Kříženec: Mining History and the Homole Basalt Hill

Kříženec combines an unusual mining history with prehistoric traces and a distinctive landscape feature in the surrounding area. During the First World War, a mica mine was opened on the outskirts of Kříženec. Various mineral resources were also mined in the surroundings of Kříženec. These two testimonies extend the historical perspective beyond the mining era: in Kříženec, you can find both a stone relief and archaeological evidence of a much earlier settlement.

Important Distinction for Orientation

The current Czech VFR guide lists LKKRIZ – Kříženec as a non-public area for sport light aircraft and specifies year-round operating hours. The “non-public” designation is the crucial restriction here. This entry should therefore not be confused with a tourist amenity that is generally accessible. It should be considered separately from the walkable tourist trail in the direction of Homole.
