Horní Kozolupy combines a fascinating local history with several signposted and described cycling routes. This gives you two distinctive ways to plan your trip: you can explore historical traces around Horní Kozolupy and Slavice or compare the different route lengths for your personal tour planning. The surrounding area, including Úterský potok Nature Park and notable lime trees, also broadens the perspective on the village.

Historical Traces in Horní Kozolupy

The history of Horní Kozolupy dates back to 1237. At that time, the village was first mentioned in connection with the local nobleman Šuchta of Kozolupy. Horní Kozolupy later came under the rule of the Lords of Gutštejn. In the 16th and 17th centuries, the village was incorporated into nearby Cebiv before permanently passing under the rule of Bezdružice.

The former Gothic Church of St. Peter and Paul played an important role in this history and has been documented since the 14th century. In the 16th and 17th centuries, it was the only parish church in the Cebiv estate and also served as the burial place of the estate’s noble owners. After two fires in 1947, the church was demolished in 1950. Its history is therefore closely connected with the political and social changes in the village, even though the building itself has not survived.

Cycling Routes of Different Lengths

Cyclists will find several specific options for planning routes in and through Horní Kozolupy. The 80-kilometre Kosí potok cycling route passes through Horní Kozolupy. It also runs through the Hadovka valley before reaching the village. Its length makes the route a standalone option for anyone who wants to plan their trip around a longer connection.

Another option is the signposted cycling route 2215. It covers 18.3 kilometres from Trpísty via Cebiv and Horní Kozolupy to Černošín. The 31.5-kilometre circular route “K vodě dvakrát přes Hadovku” runs through Strahov, Horní Kozolupy, and Slavice. In addition, the Plzeň–Aš stage leads from Slavice via Horní Kozolupy to Strahov. These details help you distinguish between a longer connection, a signposted section, and a circular route without limiting your travel planning to just one type of route.

If you are looking for accommodation, it is therefore worth deciding first which cycling route and length you prefer. You can then check which accommodation could serve as a starting point for your personal plans. The key consideration is not a blanket accommodation recommendation, but rather which historical or landscape destinations you would like to combine with your trip.

Slavice: Church, Chapel, and Chateau Grounds

Slavice also offers several historical points of interest. The Church of St. Lawrence has been documented since the second half of the 14th century; the present building dates from 1767. On the road to Horní Kozolupy, a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows from 1822 also stands in Slavice beneath the lime trees.

The chateau grounds in Slavice include a chateau building, a granary, a garden, a gate with a wicket gate, and a stone baptismal font. The remains of the Slavice fortress disappeared around 1820 during the reconstruction of the chateau and the construction of a new farmyard. As a result, preserved components of the chateau grounds and vanished traces of the older fortification history meet in Slavice. If you are planning a cultural and historical trip, you can consciously include these different layers of history in your itinerary.
