Kšice – Cultural Monuments and Cycling Routes in Czechia

Church and Village Green as the Cultural Center

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary dominates the village green in Kšice. It is a registered protected cultural monument and also a Baroque reconstruction. The Baroque reconstruction therefore belongs to a significantly more recent period than the sites dated to the Hallstatt period and the later Bronze Age. At the center of the village, there is therefore a clearly recognizable building that makes the cultural character of Kšice immediately visible. The village green and the church provide an obvious first point of reference if you want to get to know the village not merely as a place to stay overnight, but as a destination in its own right.

Protected Burial Mound Fields with Different Characteristics

Around the subject of early settlement and burial history, you will encounter several clearly distinguishable archaeological sites. Čertův kámen is a protected and well-preserved Hallstatt-period burial mound field. Its regularly defined outline is clearly visible. The field lies south of the forest road connecting Záchlumí and Kšice. It comprises 63 large and small burial mounds. A considerable part of the burial ground is covered by dense pine forest between 15 and 20 years old; a clear-cut strip also runs through the southwestern part.

Na Žalostném differs from it through its as-yet undated character. The protected burial mound field lies in the forest between Cebiv, Záchlumí, and Kšice and comprises four to six burial mounds. Some of them are still clearly visible. The smaller number and the partly preserved visibility make this site a different archaeological subject from Čertův kámen.

Stélka is also a protected burial mound field, in this case from the later Bronze Age, with archaeological continuity spanning 200 to 250 years. The site comprises 42 burial mounds over an area of approximately 350 by 100 meters. The dimensions refer to the field as a whole; the number 42 counts the burial mounds located within it.

Getting There and Cycling Routes in Kšice

Two cycling routes run through Kšice and Lomnička: the cycling loop “K vodě dvakrát přes Hadovku” and the cycling route “Stříbro a Kladrubská katedrála.” Kšice is served by buses; there is a stop in the village center. Rail access is provided by line 177, with a station in Lomnička; from there, connections to Plzeň and Bezdružice are possible. The two connections are in different locations: the bus stop is in the center of Kšice, while the station on line 177 is in Lomnička.
