Studanka between Village Square, History and Landscape

Studanka combines a manageable-sized village with a remarkably rich cultural history. The restored statue of Saint George stands on the village square. The Statue of Saint George

The statue of Saint George stands on the village square of Studánka and has been restored. It bears the date 1850 and has been protected as a cultural monument since 2008. Its location on the village square makes it a clear reference point for exploring the local history. At the same time, the monument leads directly to Georg Böhm, whose work is closely connected with Studánka.

Georg Böhm and the Art of Stone Masonry

Georg Böhm moved to Studánka in 1830 and devoted himself to artistic stone masonry there. His works include, in particular, stone crosses 4 to 5 metres high, as well as richly decorated columns with statues and wayside shrines. He worked primarily in this art from 1830 to 1850. He presumably reached the peak of his creative work with the statue of Saint George, created in 1850. These forms of work give the village's cultural history a concrete shape: alongside the individual statue, large-scale crosses, columns and wayside shrines also represent Böhm's artistic milieu.

Local History and Further Features in the Village Landscape

The history of Studánka goes back further. The probable establishment of Schőnbrunn – Krásné Studánky as a knight's seat can be dated to around 1300. Studánka was first mentioned in writing in 1407. Another cultural feature is the Boží muka wayside shrine. It was unveiled during the celebrations for the municipality's anniversary and supplemented with ceramic images of saints. In this way, different historical layers meet in Studánka: a probable medieval origin, the first written mention in 1407, and more recent forms of remembrance in public space.

Cycling Route and Forest Landscape

Studánka lies west of Tachov on road III/19910. Cycling route 2138 of the Lučina Microregion runs through the municipality. For a trip focused on cycling, this specific route is an important point of reference. The landscape adds a natural contrast to the cultural centre of the village: a forest with Rozsocha Hill lies southwest of Studánka. Folklore Festival with Musical Procession

The cultural side includes Studánecká “Staročeská konopická”. It is a folklore festival and currently one of the most significant activities of the Medulky Women's Association. The procession of the Staročeská konopická is accompanied by musicians. The festival complements the quieter stone monuments with a community-oriented cultural event.
