Koukolky Nature Monument and the Chřiby Landscape

The Koukolky Nature Monument lies in the cadastral area of Tučapy, approximately 0.5 km northwest of the village, and covers 1.3615 hectares. It protects a unique xerothermic vegetation area. This technical term refers to vegetation shaped by warmth and dry conditions. It includes rare and protected plant species; for some species, Koukolky is the only known site in the eastern part of the Chřiby.

One of Tučapy’s defining landmarks is the Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius. It was built in 1934. The Chapel of the Sacred Heart of the Lord is also one of the local monuments. Together with the landscape features, these buildings give the village a cultural dimension that differs from a purely nature-focused stay.

Another trace leads into the older history of the village: Tučapy once had a former fortified manor with three courtyards. It probably disappeared in the 16th century and has not been mentioned since 1579. This cautious historical classification makes it clear that it was a vanished complex, not a castle still preserved today or an accessible chateau.

A well-known personality is also associated with the village. The writer, translator, and publicist Bedřich Beneš-Buchlovan was born in Tučapy. For culturally interested visitors, this connection broadens the view of the village to include a literary and journalistic dimension.

Festivals and Customs Throughout the Year

Tučapy’s regional character is particularly evident during traditional events. Tučapská štamprla has been held every January since 2007; a cimbalom band usually provides the music. In October, the traditional Slovácké hody s právem festival takes place, followed by a hody dance event. At the end of May or beginning of June, Tučapské kosení is also held—a mowing event modeled on an earlier rural custom.

These dates offer different highlights: Tučapská štamprla takes place in winter, the festive tradition of Slovácké hody in autumn, while Tučapské kosení revives the connection with earlier working customs. Tučapy is also located in a wine-growing region.
