Discover Horní Němčí

Horní Němčí can be discovered through two special aspects: a town center with cultural monuments and a landscape defined by protected meadows, pastures, forests and wetland areas. Added to this are regional traditions, sports facilities and signposted trails towards Velká Javořina. This allows you to shape your stay around cultural discoveries, experiences in nature and active leisure.

Cultural monuments in the town center

The Church of St. Peter and Paul is a cultural monument and defines the center of Horní Němčí. The Myslivna (“hájenka”) is also one of the dominant buildings in the center. The present building was newly constructed in 1854 as a single-storey house and remodeled into its current form between 1921 and 1925. The Myslivna therefore brings together several clearly documented construction phases at a central location. The older history includes the central hill of a motte castle that originated in the 13th century. Parts of the moat and rampart have also been preserved. West of Horní Němčí lies the “Hřádek” hill, which is approximately 3 meters high and 17 meters wide. Both historical traces add another dimension to exploring the town, without limiting you to individual museum rooms.

Protected landscape of the White Carpathians

Several protected areas with distinctly different characteristics lie within the cadastral area of Horní Němčí. The “Drahy” nature reserve covers 15.0797 hectares of highly structured pastures and meadows. The “Bahulské Jámy” natural monument covers 14.0908 hectares of flower-rich meadows in the White Carpathians. Those who want to compare different landscape forms will find open meadow and pasture areas in these two sites. The “Uvezené” natural monument protects a 14.39-hectare oak-hornbeam forest in the cadastral area of Horní Němčí. The “Za lesem” natural monument focuses on something different: it protects part of the Lesná pastures with a wetland depression. The protected areas therefore do not represent a single type of landscape, but rather meadows, pastures, forest and wet ground areas.

Traditions and shared experiences

The town’s culture includes the “hody” festival tradition, celebrated in the last week of June. The “Horněmčanský kroj” is also a distinctive regional detail: it belongs to the tradition of the “kroj nivnický” and is characterized by particular diversity. In spring, the opening of the well-known spring is also already a tradition. For sporting variety, the TJ Sokol Horní Němčí complex has a multi-purpose sports field with an artificial surface where traditional sports can be played. The sports complex also includes a children’s playground, a 16-hole miniature golf course and six pieces of equipment for outdoor training. These facilities complement the nature and cultural attractions with concrete options for an active day.

Cycling and trails to Velká Javořina

Cycle Route No. 5052 runs via Hradčovice, Dolní Němčí, Slavkov and Horní Němčí to Velká Javořina and is part of the regional cycling network. In addition, the route from the center of Horní Němčí to Velká Javořina is marked with tourist signs. For trip planning, you can therefore choose between a cycle route integrated into the regional network and a separately marked route, without equating the two connections.
