Staré Hutě – Hiking Trails, the Chřiby Hills and Local History
Accommodation in Staré Hutě
If you would like to combine a trip with nature, physical activity and unusual local stories, Staré Hutě offers several different points of interest. The village lies in a deep valley in the Chřiby Hills; individual houses line both banks of the Kyjovka River. The surrounding area is home to well-preserved Carpathian beech forests that provide habitat for numerous rare plant and animal species. This also creates an interesting combination of landscapes, marked trails and regional history for families who enjoy varied days out.
Hiking and cycling around Staré Hutě
The Velkomoravská pilgrimage trail passes through Staré Hutě. A green KČT hiking trail also runs through the village. For cycling plans, the Jihlava–Český Těšín long-distance cycling route is relevant, as it also passes through Staré Hutě. Another cycling route entitled From the Baťa Canal Valley to the Chřiby Ridge runs through Břestek, Staré Hutě and Buchlovice.
If you would like to include a longer hiking connection in your travel plans, you can consider the route A Walk in the Chřiby Hills: Around Břestecká skála, Buchlovský kámen and Buchlov Castle. It leads from Břestek via Salaš and Staré Hutě to Buchlovice. The different route options can help you decide whether to focus your stay on hiking, cycling or a combination of both.
Scenic destinations and special places
About two kilometres northeast of Staré Hutě, in the nearby area, lies the abundant Hladná voda spring near a hunting lodge of the same name. The Buchlovský kámen rock formation is also located in the cadastral area of Staré Hutě, about 1.5 kilometres east along the yellow-marked trail. It consists of a partly wooded flat ridge with an isolated 12-metre-high sandstone rock.
About one kilometre to the east lies the historic Zikmundův dvůr, also known as Zikmundov or Dvorek. Horse riding is available there. The forests around Staré Hutě are also well known among mushroom pickers from the wider surrounding area. These suggestions are particularly useful for planning your day: you can choose whether to make a scenic feature, a route or a nature-based activity the focus, without trying to fit every experience into the same outing.
Glassmaking history and quiet cultural traces
Staré Hutě was established in connection with the founding of local glassworks at the beginning of the 18th century. At the end of the 19th century, the village was known for producing mother-of-pearl goods. On the former glassworks site stands a protected old small-leaved lime tree serving as a memorial tree. These traces give the village a historical dimension distinct from its natural experiences.
Staré Hutě is also home to a Chapel of the Virgin Mary dating from the second half of the 19th century. If you are looking for a hotel in Staré Hutě, you can therefore first consider which focus best suits your trip: trails and landscapes, cycling connections, horse riding or the history of the village.
