Between the Bystřička Valley and the White Carpathians

Suchá Loz brings together landscapes, regional history and vibrant traditions within a compact area. The village lies in the valley of the Bystřička stream; foothills of the White Carpathians extend along its southern side. At the same time, Suchá Loz lies within the CHKO Bílé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area. Here, you will therefore encounter both a clearly recognizable natural environment and places where the history and social life of the municipality are reflected.

The Horní Louky offer a distinctive landscape experience. They are home to unique flora, including zakarpatské orchids – “stavače”. For a stay focused on nature, regional features and peaceful discoveries, this contrast between the valley environment and the protected landscape is an important part of the character of the place.

Cycling with a set route through the region

Suchá Loz lies on the cycling route to Komenský. It runs from Uherský Brod via Nivnice and Suchá Loz to Bystřice pod Lopeníkem, Komňa and Bojkovice. The 34-km route follows paved cycle paths and, along a short section, field and forest roads. If you choose your accommodation as a starting point for a cycling trip, you can include a specific route with different surface types in your planning without limiting the route to a single type of landscape.

Pramen Slatina is also within reach. The spring is carbonated and salty and has a high lithium content. It is easily accessible on foot, by bicycle and by car. This combination of different ways of getting there makes it an independent excursion destination within the local range of experiences.

Customs, folk costumes and village events

Folk customs have been preserved in Suchá Loz. These include the Kateřinská zábava, featuring the custom of “právem žen” and the contest “o botu”. The Sucholožská chalupa hosts various social events, including Christmas, Easter and Sucholožské hody. Thus, not only individual historic buildings, but also recurring customs and celebrations form part of the cultural character of the place.

At Berdina, you can try on the traditional Sucholožský kroj. The experience includes putting on the individual layers of clothing step by step and tying a Turkish headscarf. The history and development of the folk costume are also explained during the fitting. The focus is therefore not only on the finished garment, but also on the traditional way of putting it on and its place within local tradition.

Historic places and viewpoints

An old brick bell tower from the 19th century stands in the village square. The site dedicated to Saint Roch dates from 1886; a plague epidemic ended in the village that year. The site dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul dates from the late 18th century. The site dedicated to Saints Cyril and Methodius dates from the 1860s. The Veleckých Mill dates from the 18th century.

In the surroundings of Suchá Loz, the U Křížku lookout tower offers a semicircular view to the northeast of Mikulčin vrch, to the east of Velký Lopeník and to the southwest of Velká Javořina. To the southeast, part of the Povážský Inovec in Slovakia is visible.
