Vejprty: Border History, Churches and Cultural Discoveries

Vejprty combines historic buildings, mining history and a distinctive cross-border town structure. Visually, the town forms a continuous settlement with Bärenstein, divided only by the border stream Polava. The settlement, formerly known as Neugeschrei, developed around 1550 around the deep Johann in der Wüste adit, called Jan na poušti in Czech, which was created after the discovery of a silver-bearing ore vein. This connection between settlement development and mining makes Nové Zvolání a distinct historical focal point.

Bobbin lace came to Vejprty in 1693 and became an important part of the local population’s livelihood. Vejprty Forest Cemetery opened on 1 October 1908; its layout forms a harmonious ensemble of cemetery architecture.
