Educational Trail, Mountain Views and Gustav Zindel

The Loučná pod Klínovcem educational trail comprises 13 stops and is just under 17.5 km long. It leads to the 1,000-metre-high Mount Meluzína, which offers views of the surrounding area. One special stop is the gallery of Ore Mountain painter Gustav Zindel. Zindel spent the last ten years of his creative life in Loučná pod Klínovcem and is buried in the local cemetery. A combined visualisation presents him as a painter and illustrator of folk life and his homeland in the Ore Mountains.

For cross-country skiing, the 15.5 km yellow Magistrála Klínovec route (K5) is available. The Klínovec Ski School uses two private drag lifts and gentle slopes with a safe run-out for lessons. The public Klínovec Ski School offers basic skiing and snowboarding courses for complete beginners and slightly advanced beginners; at JPK Klínovec/Neklid/Boží Dar, children from the age of three are taught.

There are also specific options beyond winter sports: the 6 km blue Nordic walking loop “Near the Border” follows meadow and forest paths to the state border. The municipality identifies a total of seven marked Nordic walking routes of varying lengths and difficulty in the surrounding area. For cycling, there are several marked routes on paved and unpaved roads, which are particularly suitable for mountain bikes. The black cycling route leads directly into the centre of Loučná pod Klínovcem.

History and Trip Planning

Loučná pod Klínovcem was elevated to a royal mining town by Rudolf II in 1601. Another cultural and historical destination is the lime kiln in the forested landscape between Háj near Loučná pod Klínovcem and Kovářská. It is considered the most important surviving evidence of the extraction and processing of limestone-bearing rocks for lime production in the Czech part of the Ore Mountains and was fully restored in 2019.
