Levínské Petrovice: a village structure shaped by history

Levínské Petrovice stretches along a road that runs through the village. The buildings are loosely distributed on individual plots, creating a clearly recognizable linear villagescape. Those who want to combine cultural discoveries with a glimpse of established rural structures will find various details within a compact thematic area: a historic chapel, traditional wooden buildings, houses from the 19th century, and traces of a former railway connection.

Chapel, bell tower, and rural architecture

The chapel stands by the road in the center of Levínské Petrovice. It is registered as an immovable cultural monument under registration number 2157. The square structure has a rendered stone base and a vertically boarded wooden body. Above it is a pyramid-shaped thatched roof whose unusual design makes the chapel a distinctive part of the villagescape.

In front of the bell tower stands a preserved cast-iron cross on a stone base in Empire style. It is dated 1859. The houses also tell of different construction phases: Levínské Petrovice retains vernacular wooden buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries, including the log houses numbered 19, 18, and 22. Among the masonry houses from the second half of the 19th century is house no. 12, with pilasters and stucco elements. Another rear section of the house is partly timber-framed and has a recessed wooden gallery.

Orientation and traces of historic transport

For orientation in the village, the Levínské Petrovice rozc. bus stop is 700 meters from the village center. It is located at the intersection of roads II/240 and III/24080. Road III/24080 leads from Levínské Petrovice via Horní Bukovina and Bukovina to Starý Týn, making the village’s integration into its immediate road network visible.

The former Levínské Petrovice railway stop is also part of the village’s history. Today, no visible trace of it remains. The stop was located on the western edge of the village near a former level crossing, about 250 meters from the intersection with road II/240. At 515 meters above sea level, it was the second-highest station on the railway line. Its former location and present-day absence of visible traces form an interesting contrast with the historic built fabric that remains visible in the village.

Levínské Petrovice belongs to the municipality of Lovečkovice. The municipality lies within the České středohoří Protected Landscape Area.
