Tavíkovice – Castle, Rokytná Valley and Mlynářská Trail

Tavíkovice combines cultural history with a varied landscape in the Rokytná Valley. The local castle, the wooded slopes of the river and several trails for hikers and cyclists give your stay different focal points. Rokytná Valley and Nature Park

The Rokytná River flows through Tavíkovice and forms a deep valley with numerous bends. Coniferous and deciduous forests alternate along its slopes. The 35-kilometre-long Rokytná Nature Park lies on the border of the Třebíč and Znojmo districts. Its landscape includes meandering waterways, rocks, flat floodplain meadows, scree sites, as well as changing coniferous and deciduous forests. Tavíkovice is considered a smaller centre of the nature park.

For a hike, a yellow-marked trail begins on the outskirts of Tavíkovice. It follows a stream downstream into the valley. A hiking route from Tavíkovice through the Rokytná Valley also passes Valův mlýn, a protected immovable cultural monument of the Czech Republic. Tavíkovice also has a natural swimming pool.

Castle and Local History

The settlement of Tavíkovice dates back to the 11th century; the first written mention dates from 1349. A medieval fortress stood on the site of today’s castle. The castle itself is a protected Czech cultural monument, with heritage protection in place since 3 May 1958.

Architecturally, it is a valuable Renaissance building that was originally one storey high. Later Baroque and Neoclassical alterations are part of its preserved appearance. The castle complex is surrounded by a landscaped park dating from the mid-19th century. Tavíkovice therefore offers a historical focus that is not based solely on a single phase of construction, but visibly connects different periods of the locality’s history.

The more recent local history includes the Chapel of Our Lady, Mother of Christian Unity. It was completed and consecrated on 19 May 2002. The traditional pilgrimage also has several clearly distinguishable elements: these include a Mass in the Church of the Virgin Mary and a folk costume tradition beneath the maypole. Fairground rides are available for children during this pilgrimage.

Cycling and Trails Through the Surrounding Area

The 81.6-kilometre-long Mlynářská Trail passes through Tavíkovice. It is a themed cycle route focusing on the history of milling. The route thus combines physical activity with a specific regional historical theme.

Another historical trail is the Nezvalova Trail, which was opened in a woodland setting in 1962. In the Rokytná Valley, the Ranč u řeky leisure centre, formerly IB Oslavany, remained in operation after 1989.
