Dyjákovice between the Thaya, Cycling Routes and Local History

Dyjákovice combines a water-influenced edge of the village with signposted cycling routes, sacred architectural history and traces of its military past. The Thaya flows through the village; it also feeds the irrigation canal to Hevlín. At the southwestern edge of the village, a signposted cycling route runs along the Krhovice–Hevlín Canal, with route designations 48, EV13, Greenway P-W, Moravská vinná and Po rovince. This provides a clear thematic orientation when choosing accommodation in Dyjákovice: you can combine days of cycling by the water with exploring the village and discovering its cultural and historical heritage.

Flat Cycling Route along the Canal

The signposted Po rovince cycling route has a gentle, flat profile. It runs 80 percent along local roads without road traffic.

Military History and Distinctive Village Views

At the nearby MJ-S 15 “Závora” infantry fortification, visitors can see a modernized filtration and ventilation system, fully equipped cupolas and an original pump. There are also more than 30 military fortifications in the area around Dyjákovice. Those interested in technical details and different forms of fortification will therefore find a distinct focus here alongside cycling and local history.

The Church of St Michael the Archangel forms part of the historic village landscape. It is a Late Baroque church dating from 1757 to 1761. For Dyjákovice, a pilgrimage in honour of the holy archangels Michael, Gabriel and Raphael is also recorded on the Sunday around 29 September. This information describes a traditional date, not a general promise of an event for every travel period. The programme of the Michalské krojované hody 2025 included a procession through the village in traditional costumes and a gathering with cimbalom music. The year makes clear that this was a past event programme.

Chapels, Small Monuments and Older Traces

The Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes stands at the eastern edge of the village. Its structure has a single-nave body, a polygonal chancel and a tower above the western entrance. The chapel is a valuable small sacred building in a Neo-Gothic style dating from 1886. This should be distinguished from the Chapel of Our Lady, Mother of the Church, a small sacred building dating from 1886 at the western edge of Dyjákovice.

A Calvary group stands in the former cemetery by the northern wall of the parish church. At its centre is a monumental Neoclassical cemetery cross. A stone wayside shrine from the 16th century is one of the Late Gothic pre-Reformation small outdoor monuments. The centre of Dyjákovice, including the Church of St Michael, is also recorded as an area with documented or reasonably suspected archaeological finds. The history of the village therefore extends from visible sacred buildings and small monuments to traces that may lie beneath or beside the present-day village landscape.
