Znojmo – Culture, Underground World and Wine Landscape
Znojmo Between Culture, the Underground World and Wine Landscape
Znojmo combines impressive historical landmarks with underground discoveries, wine-related experiences and cycling routes through diverse landscapes. If you would like to combine cultural experiences with active excursions on your trip, you will find several clearly distinct themes here.
A special cultural and historical highlight is the Romanesque paintings in the Rotunda of St. Catherine. They contain dynastic motifs relating to the mythical origins of the Přemyslid dynasty. The Dům umění is located in a Renaissance building in Znojmo and presents permanent as well as temporary exhibitions. Znojemský hrad Castle is also part of the cultural selection: it now houses the Znojmo Museum. In addition, the brewery exhibition in Znojmo, located in the former brewery complex, displays original Škoda brewing equipment from 1930. The cultural tour thus leads from Romanesque pictorial art through permanent and temporary exhibitions to the history of brewing.
Beneath the historic center lies the Znojemské podzemí underground complex. The labyrinth, which was gradually created from the Middle Ages onwards, offers visitors atmospheric guided tours. Adrenaline Route 1 includes a Jesuit watercourse, large underground halls and shafts. The “Viticulture” and “Archaeology” exhibitions are also part of this route. The tour therefore combines a watercourse, large halls and shafts with the themes of viticulture and archaeology. This makes it possible to plan an underground visit as a distinct focus alongside the above-ground sights.
Wine is also part of the townscape. The Enotéka is located in the center of Znojmo on the grounds of the former Znojmo brewery. Its By the Glass® self-service system offers three different tasting quantities. The three quantities make it possible to adjust the tasting to your own schedule for the day. Thus, alongside the historic brewery exhibition, there is also a contemporary place for engaging with wine at the center of trip planning.
For cyclists, the Znojmo–Šobes–Znojmo route is 27 km long. It leads across Šobes vineyard and runs in sections over asphalt, forest paths and gravel. Another point of reference is the Č. 5000+5001 okruh NP circular route: it runs between Havraníky and Popice and continues to Znojmo through a heathland landscape. When planning a day of cycling, both the 27 km and the change between asphalt, forest paths and gravel therefore count. The circular route adds a different landscape accent with its heathland.
When looking for accommodation in Znojmo, you can therefore first decide on the focus of your stay: historic interiors and museums, underground tours, wine or cycling. Znojmo offers several independent themes for this, without requiring you to limit your trip to just one type of experience. The desired combination can therefore determine whether culture, the underground world, wine or the landscape sets the rhythm of the day.
