Wine and landscapes around Moravské Bránice

Vineyards lie in the lower elevations of the surrounding slopes, including below Karlova hora, Hlínská vrchovina, Bukovina and the hill of Kalce. The Jihlava also flows through Moravské Bránice along a natural course. Those who want to combine their stay with landscapes and regional wine culture will therefore find two different perspectives on the same surroundings here.

A special point of interest is Vinařství Jan Plaček at Moravské Bránice 348. There is a vaulted tasting cellar there, which can only be used by prior reservation. The cellar offers public, professionally guided wine tastings with wine samples, cheese and bread. For groups, Vinařství Plaček specifies a capacity of 15–40 people and combines the tasting with catering. Depending on your travel plans, the visit can therefore be viewed as a reserved cellar stay or as an organized wine tasting; prior arrangements remain necessary to use the cellar.

Hiking and cycling routes

There are several documented routes for active exploration. A red-marked circular hiking route connects Ivančice, Moravské Bránice, Nové Bránice and Dolní Kounice. It therefore places not only the village itself, but also neighboring stops within one continuous route. Another documented circular hike leads via Dolní Kounice, Moravské Bránice, Železňák and Nové Bránice. It is 11 km long and takes approximately 3 hours. If you are looking for a manageable, already-described route for an excursion, this information provides a concrete point of reference without defining the character of the route more strongly than documented.

The “Brněnská” route of the Moravian Wine Trails also runs from Silůvky via Moravské Bránice toward Dolní Kounice. This allows you to distinguish between a red-marked circular hiking route, an approximately 11 km circular hike and a wine-route connection. The choice of destination therefore depends primarily on whether you want to focus on a hike involving several villages, a shorter documented tour or a route connected with viticulture.

Cultural monuments and local traditions

One of the visible historical details is the wooden bell tower, which dates from the 18th century. Moravské Bránice also has the Chapel of the Holy Trinity with an altar dedicated to Saint Anne. The “kanál” on the Bukovina stream is also listed as a tourist destination and point of interest.

The traditional Rozmarýnové hody takes place in Moravské Bránice in September. Those who want to get to know the village not only through its landscapes and buildings, but also through a fixed date in the annual calendar, can include this tradition in their travel plans. Above the Jihlava River near Moravské Bránice, a railway viaduct is also designated as a cultural monument. What remains there is a fragment with a single outer bridge span, pier and support. The designation as a cultural monument describes the documented status; it says nothing about any further use or visitor offering.

Station and orientation on site

Moravské Bránice railway station offers train connections to Brno and Hrušovany nad Jevišovkou. The station building itself also has historical significance: it was built in 1868–1869 according to a standardized design for StEG station buildings. On the side facing the tracks, there is a freely accessible memorial plaque commemorating fallen railway workers. The village’s railway history thus encompasses both the present-day connection and the building and commemorative culture at the station.

Moravské Bránice is therefore suitable as a starting point for different travel ideas, without any single attraction defining the village. You can choose wine and regional catering, a specific hiking or wine route, the Jihlava landscape or historical details.
