Hlína: Hiking, Views and Local History

Hlína combines striking views, woodland landscapes and remarkable local history within a compact area. For families wishing to bring nature and culture together during their stay, the village offers several different ways to explore it: a signposted cycling route, hiking trails in the surrounding area, a 22-metre-high observation tower, a historic church and an open-air theatre with a distinctive programme.

Hiking with views of the Pavlov Hills

One of the important stops in Hlína is the “Around the Birthplaces of A. Mucha and V. Menšík” hiking route. It places the village within an excursion setting in which hiking is connected with regional personalities and sights. A prominent destination is the Vladimír Menšík Observation Tower near Hlína. The tower is 22 metres high; from its viewing platform, you can look out over the Pavlov Hills. This allows a hiking excursion to be complemented by a clearly recognisable viewpoint, without leaving the local history merely in the background.

Woodland Trails in Bobrava Nature Park

Part of the Hlína area extends into Bobrava Nature Park. The nature park has a dense network of hiking trails and therefore shapes an important part of the surrounding landscape. St. Kunhuta Church and Historical Details

St. Kunhuta Church is the oldest building in Hlína. The Baroque church dates from 1771. Inside, there is a late Gothic wood carving of Saint Catherine from the end of the 15th century. A small Calvary group from 1877 also stands beside the church. Several eras can therefore be read in one place: the late Gothic carving, the Baroque church building and the Calvary group dating from the 19th century.

Tradition, Theatre and Cycling Route

The local character also includes the traditional Rozmarýnové hody celebrations under the maypole. They take place on the penultimate Sunday in August, giving the annual calendar a precisely identifiable traditional date. Another cultural venue is Lesní divadlo na Hlíně. This is an open-air amphitheatre with a capacity of more than 1,000 people, which prepares exactly one production each year.

A signposted local cycling route also passes through Hlína. Cycling thus complements the hiking and cultural experiences with another way to explore the village and its surroundings.
