Malešovice: Church, Jihlava Landscape and Cycling Route

Malešovice is a destination for travelers who want to experience cultural monuments and a distinctive river landscape together during a trip to the Czech Republic. The townscape is defined by the protected Church of Saint Stephen. The Malešovice area also includes the European Natura 2000 site Meandry Jihlavy. The Church of Saint Stephen is a protected monument and a distinctive landmark of Malešovice. Its core is a Gothic building dating from the 14th century. Together with the church, it forms an ensemble of considerable art-historical value.

Further historical features can be found at various points throughout the town. On the road toward Kupařovice stands the protected stone sculpture of Saint John of Nepomuk, dating from 1737. The central park contains the protected, distinctive statue of Saint Florian from the late 18th century. The Holy Cross is a sandstone monument from the 19th century and stands in the park at an intersection. On the road to a former mill, the protected Zděná boží muka commemorates another historic location.

Jihlava Landscape and Protected Nature

Meandry Jihlavy comprises one of the last naturally preserved sections of the lower Jihlava without major technical alterations or interventions. The river landscape is also a European Natura 2000 site and forms part of the Malešovice area. The Přírodní park Niva Jihlavy protects a characteristically natural meandering course of the Jihlava, with a network of riparian vegetation and former river channels.

The wildlife is also part of this natural landscape: the Malešovice area is recorded as a habitat of the specially protected fish species sekavčík horský. When choosing accommodation, you can therefore give different weight to a culturally oriented stay in the town than to a trip focused on floodplain forests, protected landscapes and nature observation.

Cycling and Getting There

The signposted Brněnská vinařská stezka runs through Malešovice. The route is 92 kilometers long, mostly paved and designed for gravel, trekking and road bikes. This means that your choice of destination can also be guided by a specific cycling tour without losing sight of Malešovice's historic character.

For travel by bus, route 512 operates along the Modřice–Dolní Kounice–Trboušany–Kupařovice–Malešovice route and serves the Malešovice, ObÚ stop. The associated timetable is valid from December 14, 2025, to December 12, 2026. This specific period should be taken into account when planning your trip.
